Dogs stay free at Woodfarm Barns & Barges
An award won by Woodfarm Barns.

Up to three dogs are very welcome, FREE of charge, in all eight of our Suffolk Barn, as well as our two Dutch barges, and over in Casa Trebbio in Tuscany. We’re delighted to say that we don’t just tolerate dogs – we welcome them! They’ll enjoy fully enclosed gardens, and a fully enclosed two acre Pooch Paddock at our Barns, as well as Dog bowls, towels and treats at all our Barns & Barges

We’ve even been awarded the Pets Welcome accreditation by the VisitEngland governing body ‘Quality in Tourism’, which backs up our approach to dog-friendly holidays. Read all about happy dogs.

Dog friendly, fully enclosed, gardens

But what is a dog friendly garden?
To ensure your canine friend, and other guests and dogs at Woodfarm, are safe and happy, all of our luxury dog friendly holiday cottages have fully enclosed gardens. This feature is part of what earns us our Pets Welcome accreditation and allows dogs to roam around their own private space, which is essential for owners who feel their dog may be nervous around others.

We always get asked if our gardens are enclosed. We’ve met guests who have experienced ‘dog friendly’ holiday cottages without enclosed gardens, so we’re proud to be able to offer this feature as part of our comprehensive dog friendly experience.

Our 2 acre fully enclosed meadow

Another excellent feature popular with people who book dog friendly holidays at Woodfarm Barns is our 2 acre, fully enclosed meadow designed so that your dog can roam freely and safely. Ideal for a walk, run or a game of fetch, our meadow is filled with lots of new smells to satisfy your dog’s sense of curiosity and adventure. It’s also a great way to meet other owners and their dogs, and make friends during your stay. Take a rest in our seating area while your dog takes a wander, and enjoy a chat with other like-minded pet owners who stay at Woodfarm for its dog friendly ethos.

We love when our guests send us photos of their dogs having a K9 holiday in our cottages – and the gallery grows all the time! We’ve been host to a wide variety of makes and models, from lovable mongrels to pure pedigrees. All are welcome at Woodfarm, with an ear-scratch and a treat waiting on arrival.

Walking the dog on your Suffolk cottage holiday

As well as our fully fenced two-acre meadow, there are plenty of dog walking trails near Woodfarm Barns. There’s even a twenty-minute walk which begins right on our doorstep! Head next door but one to Crowfield Church, where you’ll find one of the last timber-framed churches in Suffolk, as well as a quick and convenient loop trail.

Dogs with more stamina will enjoy the many walks available around the county. We provide books in our cottages on Suffolk walks, with or without dogs. However, if you would like some ideas before you leave, read our ‘Walking in Suffolk’ page.

Dog Friendly beaches in Suffolk

With miles of beautiful beaches open to the public year-round, Suffolk is a great place to bring your dog on holiday. Our dog-friendly holiday cottages are just half an hour from the beautiful heritage coast, and plenty of our guests head there for walks.

The good news is that from October through to April there are no dog restrictions in force on Suffolk’s beaches, so your pet can enjoy the benefits on any stretch of beach you like! In the summer, however, there are dog restrictions on some beaches, so here’s a list of some restrictions from 1st May through to 30th September:

Aldeburgh – Summer restriction as above, but there is a mile of wonderful dog-friendly beach just to the north of Aldeburgh which is well signposted, and stretches from the Wentworth Hotel to Thorpeness.

Felixstowe – Summer restriction as above but there are dog-friendly beaches on either side of the restricted area, stretching from Spa Pavilion to Wheeler Road. These areas are well signposted and easy to spot. However, dogs have to be kept on leads even on these stretches.

Dunwich – With the beautiful National Trust site of Dunwich Heath and a beach that’s dog-friendly all year round, Dunwich makes a fantastic dog-friendly location with plenty of long walks and refreshing water on offer. Bear in mind, however, that Dunwich is the home to RSPB Minsmere so there are occasional restrictions on dogs on the heath (not beach) during the nesting season. If you’re not sure that your dog will stay on the beach then it’s best to check with nearby Aldeburgh Tourist Information before you make your trip to ensure these nesting restrictions aren’t in place.

Southwold – One of Suffolk’s most famous beaches with summer restrictions as above. However, Southwold Denes, just north of the main beach, is dog-friendly throughout the year.
