Why Going Abroad Might Be Exactly What You (and Your Dog) Need
By Carl Scott
We know. Staycations are great. We do them! No flights, no passports, no dodgy plug sockets. But let’s be honest… sometimes you want more than a cosy night by the fire and a trip to the village pub.
Sometimes, you want Tuscany.
Yes, that’s right. Golden hills, ancient olive trees, wine that doesn’t cost £9 a glass (and actually tastes like wine), and proper sunshine that doesn’t require checking the Met Office every ten minutes.
And before you say, “But what about the dog?” — bring them too. That’s the whole point.
The Real Perks of “Getting Away”
Let’s look at what you actually get when you do it right:
-
A Villa in Tuscany (featured in The Times) – Not a beige hotel room in Benidorm. A villa. With your own terrace, views, and local wine on tap (ok, from the shop, but still).
- Real food – Think wood-fired pizza in a medieval piazza, not a £14 sandwich in an airport lounge.
-
The weather – Let’s just say you have less need of a raincoat ‘just in case’. We can’t guarantee the weather but it’s pretty good.
-
Culture without crowds – Roman ruins. Renaissance art. Local markets. No stag dos.
-
Wine tasting – Not “wine flights” served in jam jars—actual vineyards, actual Tuscan wine.
-
Day trips to Florence, Lucca, Pisa – AKA history, beauty, and gelato on every corner.
-
Open roads – Hire a Fiat and live your best Under the Tuscan Sun fantasy.
-
Bringing your dog – No guilt. No kennels. Just you, your pup, and a sunset walk through olive groves.
Meanwhile, Back in Britain…
Look, we love Suffolk (obviously). But let’s not pretend a drizzly walk across a muddy field is the same as watching the sun set over the hills of Tuscany with a chilled glass of Vernaccia in hand and your dog snoozing by your feet.
That said, we also have a Blog telling you how not going abroad could pay for your staycation!
Some things are worth a bit of travel faff.
The Punchline? You Deserve It
Sure, you could stay home. Or you could treat yourself (and your dog) to a rustic Italian adventure. You get sun, scenery, culture, and carbs — all from your own peaceful hilltop retreat just outside Lucca: Casa Trebbio.
So yes, go abroad. But go smart. Go dog-friendly. Go Tuscany.
And don’t forget the wine.
