Are you someone who carefully considers every detail, or do you prefer to book holidays on a whim?

If you are a details person then you’ve come to the right place! This page is where we provide extensive content for those who like to dive deep into the details before making a decision. If you can’t find what you’re looking for though, just pick up the phone and call me, the owner. My name is Carl and I don’t bite. We understand that every traveller is unique, so we don’t want to assume whether you’re a “whim” person or a “details” person.

That’s why we’ve created hundreds of blog posts all about Suffolk and have a growing collection of YouTube videos to cater to both approaches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only do one-week stays?

No, far from it. This is what we do:

Weekends – Friday for a two or three-night weekend.
Midweeks – Sunday to Friday, or Monday to Friday.
You can also come Monday to Sunday for six nights, or a full week arriving and leaving on a Friday, Sunday or Monday.

Provided that you arrive and leave on any of those days, you can stretch your stay out to suit yourself. We can occasionally do a one-night stay on a Sunday if we have availability. For anything else, just ask, as we may be able to accommodate you in the quieter periods.

Are bedding and towels provided?

Yes, bedding and towels are provided. All of very high quality.

Is Woodfarm Dog Friendly? Can I bring my dog with me on holiday?

We welcome up to three dogs in each cottage. We are known for this and have won awards for it, as well as gaining some great press.

Do you have a strict cleaning regime to allow for being dog friendly?

Yes. Very much so. We use a number of pet-specific products and equipment. Our housekeepers are aware of when we have had dogs in and ensure that no signs remain. The owner of the business is allergic to dogs so we have always had very high standards. Again, we have won awards for this.

Do you discriminate against certain dog breeds?

Just XL Bullies. There’s a clue in the name and they are a banned species. Other than that, for very obvious reasons, we ask that guests keep aggressive dogs very much under control and away from other dogs. We have fully enclosed, private gardens and ask that outside of these, dogs be kept on leads. You may have a very friendly dog but not everyone wants a dog bounding over to them. More importantly, nervous dogs certainly don’t want it.

Where can my dogs exercise?

We have an awesome, fully enclosed 2-acre meadow for dogs to run around and socialise!

Do you accept cats?

No, sorry. We did it twice and twice we had sofas plucked, which we didn’t charge for. So no cats.

What’s included in my Woodfarm stay?

We have a huge comprehensive list but just to give you a few of the most frequently asked ones, we provide a delicious local breakfast basket to get you off to a great start on your first morning! We also supply all your tea, coffee, sugar, linen, bedding & towels, luxury hand soap & shower gel, etc.

What is included in the kitchens?

Everything you need, hopefully. We’ve worked hard to make sure our kitchens are fully stocked.

Do you do group bookings?

Yes we do but you would need to book all of our cottages. This is to avoid other guests finding themselves in the middle of someone else’s party.

If we have friends staying can we use their hot tub?

No. We do insist that the Hot Tub is purely for use by guests staying in that barn in order to avoid unwanted noise levels, disturbing other guests.

Are the hot tubs private?

Yes. If you book a barn with a hot tub it is yours and is not overlooked. We do insist that the Hot Tub is purely for use by guests staying in that barn in order to avoid unwanted noise levels, disturbing other guests.

Do you have Wood-burners?

Yes we do, in all our Barns and aboard our large Barge ‘Onderneming’. Woodfarm House has an open fire. Twee Gebroeders doesn’t have one but it has a lovely range cooker, which kicks out a good heat.

Do the Cottages and Barges have heating?

Yes, they do. All our Barns have underfloor heating. Woodfarm House and both Barges have full domestic central heating systems with radiators throughout.

Do you have any extras to make our stay even more special?

Yes, we do. We can offer Champers, Handmade Suffolk Chocolates, Deli Hampers, Flowers, etc.

Do you decorate for Christmas?

Yes, we do. We put a decorated and lit tree up, as well as some other decorations too.

Are there any hidden charges?

Nope. We charge for logs as clearly stated. There is a cleaning charge of £25 clearly stated in our T’s & C’s if you leave the Cottage or Barge disrespectfully dirty but we’ve only had to enforce this a couple of times.

Do I pay in full when I book?

We take a £100 deposit per cottage at the time of booking, with the balance payable in full a month before you arrive.

How can I choose which Cottage or Barge suits me?

They each have their own page, with a full description, reviews and videos. PLUS there is a Google Virtual Tour for each as well.

Do you have bicycles for hire?

We do but they are free, so not for hire as such. We have a motley collection so don’t expect to enter the Tour De Suffolk on one.

Can I read any reviews?

You can read thousands on our websites from previous guests and we have hundreds of Five Star reviews on Tripadvisor, Facebook and Google.

Does Woodfarm have a social media presence?

Heck yeah! We even have a blog post and video on our social media presence that you can watch.

Does Woodfarm like Donald Trump?

No. No, we do not. He is a putrid orange creature with only his own interests at heart.

Does Woodfarm endorse crunchy peanut butter or smooth?

Crunchy. All the way!

Do I need to stop writing this page now?

Yes. I need a lie-down.

Where is the best place to holiday with a dog?

The best place to holiday with a dog is somewhere that doesn’t just “tolerate” pets but truly welcomes them as guests of honour.

At Woodfarm Barns in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, we offer luxury, gold-award-winning barns and cottages specifically designed for dog owners.

With fully enclosed private gardens, our dedicated two-acre secure exercise meadow (the “Pooch Paddock”), and miles of rural footpaths right on your doorstep, we provide the ultimate stress-free getaway.

Where can I take my reactive dog on holiday?

Finding a holiday spot for a reactive dog can be a challenge, which is why we focus on total privacy and security.

Each of our cottages and barns at Woodfarm Barns features its own fully enclosed, secure garden with physical and audible barriers to minimize distractions.

Our rural Suffolk location and the way we’ve positioned our barns mean your dog can decompress in a quiet, controlled environment without the stress of seeing other dogs or people passing by.

Where to go away in the UK with a dog?

Suffolk is widely regarded as one of the premier dog-friendly destinations in the UK, and Woodfarm Barns is the perfect base to explore it.

From our central location, you can access the stunning Suffolk coast with year-round dog-friendly beaches, hundreds of acres of National Trust parkland at Ickworth, and charming villages filled with dog-friendly pubs. Whether you want a cozy barn with a hot tub or a unique stay on one of our moored Dutch Barges, we offer a premium UK dog-holiday experience.

What is the 5 second rule for walking dogs?

The 5-second rule is a safety check to see if the pavement is too hot for your dog’s paws (if you can’t hold the back of your hand on the ground for 5 seconds, it’s too hot!).

Staying at Woodfarm Barns makes this easy to manage; our properties are surrounded by lush grass, woodland trails, and country paths, meaning your dog can enjoy safe, cool walks on natural terrain throughout the summer months without the worry of hot tarmac.

Where can I leave my dog when I go on holiday in the UK?

At Woodfarm Barns, our philosophy is that you shouldn’t have to leave them behind. We have created a luxury environment where your dogs are welcome to join you for no extra charge. We provide the “paws and stay” essentials and a secure environment so that your dogs can enjoy the holiday right alongside you. Our “Paws and Relax” guide is designed to help you find all the places in Suffolk where your dog is just as welcome as you are, so they never have to be left out.

Where can I leave my dog if I'm going on holiday?

Instead of a kennel, many owners now look for truly dog-friendly rentals where their pets can settle into a comfortable, home-from-home environment.

Woodfarm Barns offers exactly that, a secure, high-end retreat with over 1,000 five-star reviews from happy owners. We make it easy to bring the whole family along, meaning you don’t have to worry about finding external care; your dogs stay with you in a safe, enclosed setting.

What is the most dog-friendly town in the UK?

Bury St Edmunds has been officially crowned the UK’s Most Dog Friendly Town at the National DogFriendly Awards, and it is just a short 25-minute drive from Woodfarm Barns!

The town is incredibly welcoming, featuring a unique “dog-friendly” window sticker scheme, dog-friendly cinema screenings, and even “Dog-Friendly Tours” of the historic ruins and St Edmundsbury Cathedral.

Staying with us gives you the perfect rural base to explore this award-winning town.
