Planning your Suffolk break: The Bucket List #8
By Carl Scott
Planning a break in Suffolk should be effortless; that’s why we created The Bucket List. This free service provides curated itineraries, so you can unwind without the stress of planning.
For years, we have gathered the best ideas to make your Woodfarm stay unforgettable. Now, we have streamlined everything into easy-to-follow plans: because you deserve the best experience.
We have extensive guides covering Suffolk (and Tuscany), but The Bucket List packages everything into perfectly crafted day-out itineraries. Each plan highlights the best of Suffolk, bringing together must-visit places. We know the area inside and out; now you can explore without the hassle of research.
Great pubs, scenic dog walks, outstanding food and drink, charming tea rooms, historic houses, and dog-friendly beaches: The Bucket List offers something for everyone.
Stay for longer
3 night breaks are excellent value, and many guests tell us they wish they had stayed longer. We always recommend extending your stay to fully enjoy the area. A relaxed Sunday evening at your Barn or Barge lets you make the most of your getaway.
Every month, we introduce a new three-night itinerary, removing the need for planning. Research shows many people value holidays more than a pay rise; if you’re too busy or just don’t want to plan, we’ve done the work for you.
While we offer two-night weekends, longer stays provide better value. If you’re visiting for a four-night midweek break, you can mix and match itineraries or take a day to relax at your accommodation.
Day 1 – Heritage & Animals: Easton + Valley Exploration
-
Easton Farm Park
A brilliant choice for August. Farm animals, indoor play barns, pony rides, vintage tractors, and riverside walks. Great for families, couples, and anyone who likes a classic Suffolk countryside experience with charm. -
Parham Airfield Museum
An excellent hidden gem just 10 minutes from Easton. Housed in a restored WWII control tower, it tells the story of the 390th Bomb Group and local wartime life. It’s free to visit (donations welcome), very well run, and surprisingly moving — a great contrast to the farm park earlier in the day. -
River Deben Picnic or Walk – Ufford or Wickham Market
Pick a stretch along the River Deben near Ufford (very close to Easton) for a quiet late afternoon riverside wander. The Ufford Crown is a fantastic pub nearby for a late lunch or early dinner.
Day 2 – West Suffolk: History, Nature & a Hint of Curiosity
-
Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve
Run by Suffolk Wildlife Trust, this is an outstanding reserve for birdwatching, dragonflies, lakeside trails, and photography. In August, expect kingfishers, late summer birds, and tranquil water scenes. -
West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village & Country Park
A reconstructed Anglo-Saxon settlement where you can walk through living history, see archaeological finds, and enjoy forest trails. It’s family-friendly, immersive, and not tourist-trappy. -
Wyken Vineyards
Finish the day with a visit to this lovely vineyard near Stanton — enjoy a woodland walk, a browse through the country store, and a relaxed wine tasting or early dinner at The Leaping Hare.
Day 3 – Coastal Curiosities & Offbeat Heritage
-
RSPB North Warren
North Warren is a quieter, often-overlooked reserve near Aldeburgh but with its own parking and trails. Heathland, marshes, and woodland all in one — perfect for a peaceful morning ramble with binoculars. -
The Long Shop Museum – Leiston
A world-class industrial heritage museum. Learn about Suffolk’s engineering legacy (especially the Garrett steam engines), plus rotating exhibits. Quirky, high quality, and way more engaging than it sounds. -
Glemham Hall Gardens (if open) or Friston circular walk
End with either a quiet visit to Glemham Hall’s grounds (check open garden dates) or a countryside walk around Friston. Bonus: the Friday Street Farm Shop & Café nearby is excellent for afternoon tea, produce, or gifts.
