Planning your Suffolk break: The Bucket List #6
By Carl Scott
Suffolk’s Hidden Treasures & Coastal Corners
Planning a break in Suffolk should be effortless; that’s why we created The Bucket List. This free service provides curated itineraries, so you can unwind without the stress of planning.
For years, we have gathered the best ideas to make your Woodfarm stay unforgettable. Now, we have streamlined everything into easy-to-follow plans: because you deserve the best experience.
We have extensive guides covering Suffolk (and Tuscany), but The Bucket List packages everything into perfectly crafted day-out itineraries. Each plan highlights the best of Suffolk, bringing together must-visit places. We know the area inside and out; now you can explore without the hassle of research.
Great pubs, scenic dog walks, outstanding food and drink, charming tea rooms, historic houses, and dog-friendly beaches: The Bucket List offers something for everyone.
Stay for longer
3 night breaks are excellent value, and many guests tell us they wish they had stayed longer. We always recommend extending your stay to fully enjoy the area. A relaxed Sunday evening at your Barn or Barge lets you make the most of your getaway.
Every month, we introduce a new three-night itinerary, removing the need for planning. Research shows many people value holidays more than a pay rise; if you’re too busy or just don’t want to plan, we’ve done the work for you.
While we offer two-night weekends, longer stays provide better value. If you’re visiting for a four-night midweek break, you can mix and match itineraries or take a day to relax at your accommodation.
Without further ado, here’s your Sixth Three Day Bucket List:
DAY ONE: Clare, Cavendish & Clare Castle Country Park
🔹 Morning – Clare
Start your day in Suffolk’s smallest town, but one that’s big on history and charm. Wander the Clare Antique Shops, explore Clare Priory, and enjoy a mid-morning coffee from Honey Hill Italian Restaurant and Café.
🔹 Midday – Clare Castle Country Park
Walk through this serene park where you’ll find the ruins of Clare Castle atop a motte with gorgeous countryside views. It’s perfect for a picnic or quiet reflection.
🔹 Afternoon – Cavendish
Drive a short way to Cavendish, one of the prettiest villages in Suffolk. Take in the postcard-perfect green, pink cottages, and ancient church. Have a late lunch or early dinner at The George, a cozy village pub with seasonal local fare.
DAY TWO: Westleton, Minsmere RSPB Reserve & The Eel’s Foot Inn
🔹 Morning – Westleton
Begin with a wander around Westleton Common, a hidden heathland ideal for peaceful morning walks. Drop into The Westleton Crown for a hearty breakfast or just a coffee.
🔹 Midday – RSPB Minsmere
A must for nature lovers. This coastal reserve is bursting with birds, wildflowers, and even red deer. Take a guided walk or explore the hides—this is one of Britain’s best spots for birdwatching and utterly tranquil.
🔹 Afternoon to Evening – The Eel’s Foot Inn
Just outside Minsmere, The Eel’s Foot Inn is an old smugglers’ haunt with live folk music on Sundays. Enjoy a pint and dinner in the garden or by the fire, depending on the season.
DAY THREE: Hadleigh, Raydon Wood & Bildeston
🔹 Morning – Hadleigh
Not to be confused with the Essex town! Suffolk’s Hadleigh boasts timbered houses, a medieval guildhall, and the beautiful St Mary’s Church. Stop at Fergusons Deli for a breakfast baguette or some takeaway goodies.
🔹 Midday – Raydon Wood
A secluded walking spot not far from Hadleigh—Raydon Great Wood is a quiet and less-discovered forest area. Take a picnic and enjoy bluebells (in spring) or the vibrant hues of autumn foliage.
🔹 Afternoon – Bildeston
Wrap up your trip with a visit to the quaint village of Bildeston, where you can stroll its historic streets and finish with a fine meal at The Bildeston Crown, a 15th-century coaching inn turned boutique restaurant.
