Ya know, I think one of the reasons I’m still single is that this is the kind of thing that I wake up thinking about at 4am on a Saturday:

When people book a holiday, they’re not just choosing a place to stay – they’re making a decision packed with emotion. They’re hoping for rest, reassurance, and maybe a bit of magic. Underneath all that? A quiet but vital question: Can I trust this place to deliver what I need?

Psychologically, trust reduces uncertainty. In behavioural science, it’s known as a “cognitive shortcut” – a mental fast-track we use to make decisions without overloading ourselves. And when it comes to holiday bookings, trust is the shortcut that makes all the difference. It’s the thing that calms the voice in your head wondering: Will this be as nice as it looks? Will it be clean? Will we be looked after if something goes wrong? Will the dogs be safe and secure?

Trust isn’t something we shout about much. It’s something we’ve built, quietly and consistently, guest by guest. But it is in the hundreds of five-star reviews we have (which I do shout about. Often.)

This morning I’ve pulled out some of the things that people say in those reviews. Things like “spotlessly clean,” “felt instantly at home,” “exceeded expectations,” or “we’ve already rebooked.”

I get all the feedback on every step of the process and I know that we also build trust in our detailed pre-arrival emails, our doggy welcome stuff, our real-time response if something needs fixing – and our refusal to compromise on any of it.

That’s why 30% of our guests come back. Not just because the Barns and Barges are beautiful (they are), or the location and surroundings are stunning (they are), but because people know they can rely on us.

You don’t need gimmicks when you’ve got trust. You just need to show up, do what you say you’ll do, and care. Every time. It ain’t rocket science.
