Why Dogs Love Suffolk in Autumn
By Carl Scott
If dogs could design the perfect holiday, it would look an awful lot like Suffolk in autumn. They’d also likely settle on our Barns and Barges for rent, too. Why? Well, because there are wide-open spaces to run about in, sandy beaches to bound along, forests full of sticks and squirrels, and, of course the countless pubs and cottages where they’re welcomed with a pat on the head (and likely more than a few treats). At Woodfarm Barns & Barges, we see tails wagging faster in autumn than at any other time, and it’s easy to see why. Consider, for example, the:
Cooler, Comfier Walks
For dogs, autumn means long walks without the summer heat. Crisp mornings and mild afternoons are simply perfect for exploring Suffolk’s rolling landscapes. Rendlesham Forest, with its pine trails and crunching leaves, is a particular favourite of ours. Dunwich Heath also offers heather and sea breezes, while the open spaces of Knettishall Heath let dogs run to their heart’s content.
Beaches Without the Crowds
Southwold, Aldeburgh and Walberswick are all glorious year-round destinations, but autumn gives dogs a little more freedom. With fewer visitors, the beaches feel wilder and more open, and many seasonal restrictions on dog access are lifted. There’s nothing quite like watching a dog race across the sand with the waves chasing after them, in our experience.
Dog-Friendly Stops Along the Way
Suffolk’s pubs and cafés are famously welcoming to dogs, especially in autumn when muddy paws and damp noses are all part of the charm. After a walk, you’ll find fully stocked water bowls by the bar, treats offered with a smile, and fires ready to warm you both.
Cosy Evenings Together
Back at our Barns and Barges for rent in Suffolk, our accommodations are all designed with dogs in mind. Secure gardens also give them space to sniff around, while inside, the warmth of the stove makes the perfect spot for a contented snooze. Watching your dog curl up happily by the fire is one of autumn’s simplest joys.
Shared Adventures
Of course, what dogs love most about Suffolk in autumn is the time with you. Whether it’s discovering a new woodland path, chasing waves at the beach, or simply sitting beside you in a pub, these shared moments are what make tails wag.
