The Dog Holiday Expert Series
By Carl Scott
We’ve hosted thousands of dog holidays at Woodfarm Barns over almost two decades.
That teaches you a few things.
Not textbook things. Real things. The sort of things that only come from seeing guests arrive with excited dogs, nervous dogs, reactive dogs, muddy dogs, tiny dogs, enormous dogs, and dogs who clearly believe every new garden is a personal escape challenge.
That’s why we’ve created The Dog Holiday Expert Series.
It’s a set of videos and blogs designed to help people get more from their Dog-Friendly holiday, whether they stay with us or not. Of course, we’d love you to stay with us. We’re not running a charity for confused Labradors. But the point of the series is bigger than simply saying “book Woodfarm”.
It’s about helping dog owners understand what actually makes a Dog-Friendly break work.
Because there’s a big difference between a place that allows dogs and a place that has genuinely thought about them.
In the series, we cover five practical topics:
- Dog-Friendly or dog-tolerant?
How to spot the difference between accommodation where dogs are genuinely welcome and places where they’re only just permitted. We look at hidden charges, awkward rules, breed restrictions and what “dogs welcome” really means. - The scent anchor
A simple way to help your dog settle in a new place by bringing something familiar from home. Not a magic cure, but a practical tip that can make the first evening calmer. - The door-dash trap
Why arrival can be one of the riskiest parts of a Dog-Friendly holiday. Open boots, open doors, bags everywhere and an excited dog can quickly turn into chaos. We explain how to avoid that. - The pub dog problem
How to make pub lunches easier with your dog. Settle mats, calmer walks and choosing the boring table can make a huge difference. - What “secure garden” really means
Why fence height is only part of the story. Gate gaps, weak points, low boundaries and visual triggers can all matter, depending on your dog.
We’ve also shot videos to go with these topics, because some of this is much easier to explain when you can see it. Gates, gardens, dog beds, arrival routines and pub set-ups make more sense when they’re shown properly, rather than buried in a list of tips.
The whole point is to make Dog-Friendly holidays less stressful and more enjoyable. For you AND your Dogs.
For guests, that means fewer worries before you arrive.
For dogs, it means a calmer, safer, more familiar experience.

And for us, it means showing what Woodfarm Barns has always tried to be: not just Dog-Friendly, but dog-thought-through.
After thousands of dog holidays, we know people aren’t just looking for somewhere that says dogs are allowed.
They’re looking for somewhere that understands what travelling with dogs is actually like.
That’s what this series is about.
