The Granary Barn next to the farmhouse has been extremely well occupied since Easter 2011, with phenomenal feedback (See testimonials).
Now my five new barns, all named after Suffolk rivers, have been up and running since since summer 2012.
The river Alde gives nearby Aldeburgh its name, which is a fabulous place to visit, as many of our guests do. Fabulous shopping, pubs, restaurants and world famous Fish ‘n’ Chips! Just half an hour from Woodfarm Barns.
The river Deben gives nearby Debenham its name, which is a fabulous place to visit and only five minutes from Woodfarm Barns. And yes, it is where the department store gets its name as the founder lived here before setting off some 300 years ago to London to set up his high class haberdashery. Didn’t do too badly did he?
The River Gipping is the source river for the River Orwell (the barn next door!), starting in nearby Mendlesham Green and was altered with the addition of 15 locks between Ipswich and Stowmarket. In recent years the navigation, as this section was known, has undergone restoration and offers a great walk known as ‘The Gipping Way’, which uses the towpath for most of its route.
The River Orwell flows through Suffolk, with its source being the River Gipping (The barn next door!) It broadens into an estuary at Ipswich where the docks have operated since the 7th century and then flows into the North Sea at Felixstowe after joining with the River Stour – the barn the other side. It’s almost as if I thought this through! Oh and some writer called George also took the name as he loved it around here!
The river Stour meanders down from Sudbury to the Sea, with some lovely villages on its route. The nearest point to here is Dedham, which is a beautiful place to visit, with some great craft and gift shops, restaurants and pubs. The walk from Dedham to Flatford is a really popular one, particularly in the summer. You could even show off your rowing prowess in a boat!
