Places to Eat & Drink with your dog in Suffolk

By

Because we know you like to keep your dogs happy, we thought we’d bring you a few of our favourite pubs and places to eat and drink within ten or fifteen minutes of our dog friendly holiday cottages in Suffolk. And this guy looks happy!

When enjoying a relaxing stay here in beautiful Suffolk there are plenty of dog friendly pubs and places to eat that you can pop into when your furry friends are out taking you for a walk. So there’s never any need for the furrier family members to miss out. This is our mini-guide to the ones nearest to us that we like.

The Crown, Stowupland – IP14 4BQ

Welcomes well-behaved guests of both the four-legged and two-legged variety. All they ask is that your K9 companions are on a lead when in the bar or garden.

There is always a fresh bowl of water left outside and when ordering your pint of craft beer or local cyder you can also collect a free dog treat from the bar, keeping everyone in the family happy. The Crown also provides a variety of edible treats for its human visitors too. Whether it’s coffee and cake mid-morning, lunch, or dinner there is always something tasty on offer. All their food is freshly prepared every day providing a good choice of classic pub dishes for you to enjoy.

The Victoria, Earl Soham – IP13 7RL

Looking for a taste of old Suffolk? Then a great place to stop off for a drink, snack or a meal after walkies is The Victoria in Earl Soham. This unspoilt dog friendly pub welcomes humans and their fuzzy best friends. The Victoria is the perfect place for a genuine taste of Earl Soham, offering beers brewed right there in the village. Excellent food is also served both lunchtimes and evenings, there’s off-road parking and open fires, and in that manly Suffolk way, the gentlemen still have an outside loo.

The Black Horse, Thorndon – IP23 7JR

For dogs who really like to feed their human companions with locally sourced food. With extensive menus on offer, The Black Horse offered plenty of traditional British pub food as well as cuisine inspired by the chef’s travels in Asia.

Though they take some of their inspiration from afar they keep their ‘food miles’ down to a minimum, growing much of their own vegetables and sourcing everything they can’t grow themselves from a radius of only a handful of miles. Perfect for pooches looking to reduce their carbon pawprint.

The Four Horseshoes, Thornham Magna – IP23 8HD

Does the idea of visiting the oldest pub in Suffolk sound exciting to you? Then The Four Horseshoes in Thornham Magna is the dog friendly pub for you.

A welcoming, family-run 12th-century thatched Inn complete with very low heavy black beams, country pictures and big log fireplaces, The Four Horseshoes offers home-cooked food and accommodation seven days a week. Their Sunday Carvery is particularly popular amongst their human customers. The inn is also well situated for Thornham Walks, should extra exercise be needed after indulging. We have written all about Thornham Walks in a separate Blog Post.
