Are our Barns & Barges suitable for disabled guests

Are our Barns and Barges are suitable for disabled guests?

By

At Woodfarm Barns & Barges, we often receive questions about accessibility, and we’re happy to provide clear answers to help our guests make informed decisions. In this instalment of our ‘You Ask, We Answer’ series, we address whether our Barns and Barges are suitable for disabled guests. While we strive to make our accommodations as welcoming as possible, there are some important considerations to keep in mind.

We have two Barns, Deben Barn and Stour Barn, which offer extra-wide internal doorways and a very low threshold of just 5mm, making them more accessible for wheelchair users. However, the showers in these Barns are step-in style, featuring a standard-sized shower tray. While not fully accessible, we have had wheelchair-using guests stay in these Barns and find them comfortable. To help you decide if they suit your needs, we offer virtual tours on our website. Simply navigate to the ‘Help Yourself’ section on our homepage, where you can explore each Barn in detail.

To take a virtual tour, scroll down on our homepage until you find the section that invites you to explore our accommodation. Clicking the virtual tour link allows you to look inside each Barn, including Stour Barn and Deben Barn, which are both on one level. By clicking and dragging within the tour, you can view door widths, thresholds, and room layouts. This provides a realistic insight into accessibility before making a booking.

It’s important to note that none of our other Barns or Cottages are on a single level, so they may not be suitable for wheelchair users or guests with limited mobility. As for our Barges, we regret that they are not accessible for disabled guests. The Barges are accessed via gangplanks and have steep steps leading down into the cabins, making them impractical for wheelchair users or those with mobility concerns.

We hope this information helps you determine whether our Barns meet your needs. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us.
