Where’s the best place to enjoy a spot of horse riding in Suffolk?
Keen to have the complete countryside experience when staying at our Barges and Barns for rent this year and fancy a spot of horseback riding? We’ve got you covered. As a county with a rich equestrian history – we do boast the home of horse racing, Newmarket, as part of Suffolk, after all – there are more than a few destinations which will allow you to saddle up and journey through some fantastic scenery.
Ideal for beginners as well as more experienced riders, the horse riding experiences on offer at Thetford Forest are perfect for taking in the rural surroundings from the comfort of a saddle. From gentle woodland trails to more challenging routes, these guided horseback experiences are led by knowledgeable local guides who will be sure to fill you in on everything around you as you take in the atmosphere of the forest. With all of this in mind, it’s tricky to think of a better way to enjoy nature around Suffolk.
In Pakefield, just north of Southwold, it’s possible to enjoy a coastal horse riding experience led by seasoned experts who make it easy for riders of all abilities to enjoy a gallop along the water. In terms of unique ways to spend the day, we can think of few better ways than enjoying a panorama of the North Sea from the comfort of a horse. There’s also plenty of fantastic places to stop for a bite to eat along the coast on your return to your Barn or Barge, too…
For a horse riding experience which is distinctly Suffolkian, however, we can think of nothing better than visiting the Suffolk Punch Trust in Hollesley. Here, you’ll find a collection of – you guessed it – Suffolk Punch horses. In addition to welcoming visitors to participate in hands-on activities with our very own and very fine breed of horse, volunteers at the Suffolk Punch Trust run regular horse riding experiences for riders of all ages. Once more, we find it hard to recommend anything more uniquely Suffolkian and brilliant all at once.
Of course, should you wish to visit the home of horseracing itself, you’ll find many stables offering horse riding experiences in Newmarket. As a town steeped in horse riding history, Newmarket is a town with its very own horse racing museum, appropriately themed eateries, and two well-appointed and very popular race courses which often host live music on Friday evenings. No doubt best combined with a day at the races, this equestrian town is only a short hop from Bury St Edmunds and provides you with the perfect opportunity to explore two of the most notable towns in Suffolk.
If we’ve got you in mind for saddling up and exploring our many fantastic destinations in style, why not take a look at the current availability of our Barns and Barges for rent in Suffolk? In our dog-friendly accommodation, you’ll find all of the comforts necessary to unwind with after a day spent on horseback.
