Where to find Suffolk fairs and fetes this summer

Summer in Suffolk is unbeatable. There, we said it. It truly is the best place to be and we won’t hear otherwise. Packed out with events from fairs to fetes, each capturing the essence of this charming county, there’s plenty going on in our bustling market towns and quaint villages right up until Autumn comes around. Highlighting a series of events offering a mix of local culture, artisanal crafts, delicious food, and traditional entertainment, we’ve put together a guide for anyone joining us at our Barges and Barns for rent in Suffolk this summer.

Aldeburgh Carnival

One of the highlights of the summer, the Aldeburgh Carnival is a must-visit event. Held every August, this three-day celebration is billed as “a grand three days out at the seaside”. Featuring a colourful procession, live music, fireworks, and a funfair, the carnival has a unique theme each year which inspires some truly creative costumes and floats. This year the theme is 80s culture and you’ve got until 17th of August to get that perm done…

Southwold Arts Festival

The Southwold Arts Festival is a week-long celebration of music, literature, theatre, and visual arts beginning on the 22nd June and running until the 29th. Transforming the charming seaside town of Southwold into a cultural hub, the Arts Festival comprises events ranging from art exhibitions and theatre performances to poetry readings and concerts. Really, there is something for everyone. And yes, there’s plenty of delicious food and drinks to tuck into, too.

Framlingham Country Show

Taking place across the 17th-18th August, the Framlingham Country Show is a quintessential English country fair. Set against the backdrop of Framlingham Castle, this event brings together the best of rural life with animal displays, equestrian events, and traditional crafts. Guests are also welcome to enjoy falconry demonstrations, dog shows, and even try their hand at archery.

Bury St Edmunds Food and Drink Festival

Food lovers won’t want to miss the Bury St Edmunds Food and Drink Festival on the 25th August. This festival is a celebration of Suffolk’s culinary heritage, featuring stalls from local producers, cooking demonstrations, and tastings. From artisanal cheeses and freshly baked bread to locally brewed beers and fine wines, there’s plenty to tempt your taste buds.

It would certainly be fair to say that Suffolk’s fairs and fetes are a highlight of the summer, offering a perfect blend of tradition and entertainment. Whether you’re seeking the excitement of a carnival, the charm of a country show, or the flavours of a food festival, Suffolk’s summer events have something for everyone. So, pack your sunhat and get down to one of our Barges or Barns for rent.
