This is what I said…
A Dining Experience at Ristorante All’Olivio in Lucca
Welcome to another video from our ‘You Ask, We Answer’ series, where we explore the best of Tuscany and Suffolk, sharing experiences from our travels. In this video, I talk about my recent dining experience at Ristorante All’Olivio, a restaurant located right in the heart of Lucca, just off the famous Via Fillungo.
Discovering Ristorante All’Olivio
I visited this wonderful restaurant in September 2024 with my friend Mark. We actually found it through the Michelin Guide, which Mark always relies on when traveling around the world. While we weren’t specifically looking for a Michelin Star restaurant, All’Olivio was a Michelin-recommended spot. It reminded us of another great place, Antica Locanda di Sesto, which we visited in 2023 – there’s also a blog and video about that experience.
The Charm of All’Olivio and Its Owners
Ristorante All’Olivio has been owned by the same couple since 1988, and both owners were present during our visit, personally serving us. Their passion for the restaurant was evident, making our evening all the more special. Although the interior was beautiful, we opted to sit outside in their charming courtyard, as it was a warm evening.
One quirky feature that caught our attention was a stunning box of fresh mushrooms near our table. It was a delightful touch, reflecting the restaurant’s focus on fresh, local ingredients.
The All’Olivio Dining Experience
Our meal began with a delicious selection of homemade breads. Every time we finished a basket, they generously brought more! Eventually, we had to politely decline a fourth serving. Next came a delightful amuse-bouche – an unforgettable chickpea and shrimp dish.
For my first course, I had a superb pasta dish made with fresh, local ingredients. Mark had something different, but equally as delicious. For the main course, I indulged in a crispy octopus, which was, without a doubt, the best thing I’ve eaten in years. Mark chose the baked cod, which was also extraordinary.
Although Mark skipped dessert, I couldn’t resist the semifreddo, which was absolutely divine and the perfect way to end the meal.
The Details
Ristorante All’Olivio is centrally located in Lucca, and while it wasn’t cheap, it was well worth the price. The total came to around €160, which included a very nice bottle of wine. Although not Michelin Star pricing, it was still an excellent value for the quality of the food and the overall experience.
Visit All’Olivio During Your Stay at Casa Trebbio
If you’re staying at Casa Trebbio, just outside of Lucca, I highly recommend a visit to Ristorante All’Olivio. It’s a fantastic spot to enjoy a memorable meal in the heart of Tuscany.
