Discover Rendlesham Forest: A Walk Through Mystery and Beauty

Hello, it’s Carl, and today I’m excited to share some fascinating insights about Rendlesham Forest. Known around the world for its mysterious events, this enchanting Forest is located along the Suffolk coast. It’s conveniently positioned for guests staying on our Barges, with just a 10-15 minute drive from either of our locations: Onderneming at Snape Maltings or Twee Gebroeders in Woodbridge. For those staying at our Cottages, it’s approximately a 35-minute drive, making it an ideal destination for a day out.

A Forest for All Seasons

Rendlesham Forest is a haven for nature enthusiasts, especially if you’re a dog owner. The Forest is well-signposted with clear trails and arrows, making it easy to navigate. There are several parking areas available, ensuring a hassle-free visit. Whether you’re strolling through the woods or embarking on a more adventurous hike, the Forest’s natural beauty is sure to captivate you.

The UFO Phenomenon

However, Rendlesham Forest is not only renowned for its scenic trails. It’s also famous for an extraordinary event: a reported UFO sighting in December 1980. Here’s a brief recounting of the event, taken directly from a pamphlet available in the Forest.

On the morning of December 27, 1980, two USAF Security Police patrolmen noticed unusual lights through the trees outside the east gate of RAF Woodbridge Airfield. Suspecting these lights might belong to an unidentified aircraft, they obtained permission to investigate and were soon joined by two additional USAF personnel. One member of the team remained at the edge of the Forest to maintain communication while the others ventured deeper into the woods.

The patrolmen soon observed a conical object hovering about 12 inches above the ground, surrounded by a mist. The craft appeared metallic with black markings. As they attempted to approach it, the object ascended rapidly and vanished in a flash of light. The following day, Air Force personnel discovered three small triangular depressions on the ground, along with radiation levels ten times higher than the normal background level.

On the night following the initial sighting, a pillar of yellowish mist transformed into a huge eye before a craft with pulsating lights was observed maneuvering through the Forest. This craft eventually changed shape into a pyramid before shooting skywards. Reports included mysterious sounds and animals acting strangely, adding to the intrigue.

Explore the UFO Trail

While Rendlesham Forest’s UFO sightings are a captivating part of its history, the Forest itself is a wonderful place to explore. Take a walk on the UFO Trail and pick up a copy of the pamphlet to delve deeper into the story. The Forest remains a popular attraction, not only for its enigmatic past but also for its natural beauty.
