Over the years, we’ve heard many guests say, “We wish we’d stayed longer!” Not only does a longer stay give you the chance to explore more of Suffolk, but it also becomes more cost-effective. That’s why we’ve created several three-day itineraries to help you plan the perfect trip. If you’re staying for four nights or more, you can mix and match ideas from our growing list of Bucket Lists, ensuring you’ll never run out of things to do. Let’s get started on this three-day adventure…
The Suffolk Bucket List: 3-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Woodbridge and Sutton Hoo
Start your Suffolk journey at Sutton Hoo, one of the most famous Anglo-Saxon burial grounds in the UK. Located along the River Deben, directly across from our barge Twee Gebroeders, it’s a short trip from our Barges and not far from the Barns either. Sutton Hoo gained prominence through the film The Dig, starring Ralph Fiennes. It’s a fascinating site steeped in history and archaeology.
Next, head into the picturesque town of Woodbridge, just a five-minute walk from Twee Gebroeders. Explore the charming shops along the Thoroughfare and enjoy lunch at The Crown, a lovely spot in the heart of town. Afterward, visit the Tide Mill Museum, a working tide mill and an iconic feature in many of our Woodbridge photographs.
End your day with dinner at The Unruly Pig, an award-winning gastro pub renowned for its exceptional cuisine. It’s been recognised nationally, so you’re in for a treat.
Day 2: Dedham Vale and Flatford Mill
Dedham Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), is a must-visit. This stunning region holds special significance for us as it was home before Woodfarm Barns. Begin your day at the Dedham Craft Centre, housed in a beautifully converted church. For lunch, visit The Sun Inn on Dedham High Street, a dog-friendly pub offering delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere.
After lunch, take a scenic walk along the River Stour to Flatford Mill, famously depicted in John Constable’s painting The Hay Wain. Explore the National Trust Visitor Centre, Willie Lott’s Cottage, and even an RSPB centre. It’s a full day of natural beauty and cultural history, with plenty of spots for your four-legged friends to join in the fun.
Day 3: Eye, Thornham Walks, and Helmingham Hall
On your final day, venture to Eye, a quaint town north of Woodfarm HQ. Its historic buildings and tranquil charm make it worth a visit. From there, head to Thornham Walks, a well-maintained forest trail suitable for all abilities. The paths are accessible, and dogs are welcome, making it a great stop for everyone.
For lunch, enjoy hearty portions at The Four Horseshoes in Thornham Magna. This charming, pink thatched coaching inn offers a quintessential Suffolk experience. After refuelling, take a short trip to Helmingham Hall, a stately home with stunning gardens that perfectly cap off your Suffolk adventure.
