Long Melford: History & Antiques galore
This blog post introduces you to a video that I shot to tell you about “Long Melford: History & Antiques galore ”. It’s also part of our You Ask, We Answer series, where we answer tons of FAQ’s and give you lots of information to help you get the most out of Suffolk.
At Woodfarm Barns & Barges, we understand that planning the perfect getaway involves many questions and uncertainties. To help you navigate through these and to ensure you have the best experience possible, we’ve launched our ‘You Ask, We Answer’ initiative. This approach isn’t just about promoting our Barns, Cottages and Barges; it’s about providing valuable information, solutions, and peace of mind to our prospective guests.
Anyway, this is the video, and the transcript is below it if you wish to go back over anything.
This is what I said…
Discovering the Charm of Long Melford in Suffolk
Hello, it’s Carl! In this video, I’m thrilled to share one of my absolute favorite places in Suffolk—Long Melford. While I’m not a history professor, I am passionate about Holiday Cottages and Barges, and if I were a history professor, I’d certainly be talking a lot about this incredible place.
Exploring the Rich History of Long Melford
Long Melford is steeped in history, and one of the most iconic landmarks is Kentwell Hall. This stunning Hall is located just on the outskirts of Long Melford and regularly hosts fascinating Tudor reenactments. During my visit, I was lucky enough to stumble upon one of these reenactments, complete with costumed actors bringing the past to life.
Next door to Kentwell Hall is the equally impressive Melford Hall, a beautiful estate owned by the National Trust. Melford Hall is famous not only for its historical significance but also for its annual Music Festival Leestock. I’m proud to say that Woodfarm is one of the sponsors of this festival, where we sponsor the program every year. I’ve also had the pleasure of playing there with my band—definitely one of the poshest backdrops we’ve ever had!
Enjoying the Delights of Long Melford
Long Melford is not just about history; it’s also a haven for antique shopping. The High Street is lined with antique shops, coffee shops, and restaurants, making it a perfect destination for a leisurely day out. I’ve purchased many wonderful items for Woodfarm here, and I highly recommend a visit to this charming town.
One of my favorite spots in Long Melford is The Black Lion, a fabulous restaurant where I’ve enjoyed many breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Whether you’re looking for a bite to eat or a unique shopping experience, Long Melford has something for everyone.
Plan Your Visit: Long Melford and Lavenham
If you’re planning a trip to Long Melford, I strongly suggest combining it with a visit to the nearby village of Lavenham. These two historic towns are only about 4 miles apart, and together they make for a perfect day out. Both are around half an hour from Woodfarm HQ, so be sure to take advantage of the proximity to explore these wonderful Suffolk gems.
