Here’s the best walks in Suffolk near our Barns & Cottages
You don’t need to be a rambler or a Womble to enjoy taking a walk around Suffolk when renting one of our Barns. Sure, it might make things more exciting, but it isn’t a strict requirement. To make sure that you’re heading off in the right direction, we’ve rounded up a selection of the best strolls to take when joining us in sunny Suffolk.
Just a short walk from our Barns, Crowfield Church is one of the rare timber-framed churches in Suffolk. It’s a beautiful little building, with a timber-framed chancel and a moat and manor house next door. It’s a lovely spot for a gentle stroll and a bit of local history.
If you’re keen to explore more historical gems nearby, consider venturing over to Stonham Aspal, a village tucked into the heart of Mid Suffolk. It’s full of character and only a short drive from Crowfield.
This walk is about three miles away and was created by the local community. It starts opposite the Dukes Head pub in Coddenham and follows Love Lane, with views of Shrublands Hall and the 17th-century Hemingstone Hall. There are benches and picnic spots along the way, making it a great place to stop for a rest.
While you’re out that way, you might pass through Stonham Aspal, Suffolk—a quintessential English village complete with traditional houses, and even Stonham Aspal Primary, which adds a warm, community feel to the area.
Needham Lake
A ten-minute drive from our Barns, Needham Lake is a popular spot for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts. The lake was created in the 1970s and is now home to a variety of birds and other wildlife. There are picnic areas and open-air events held throughout the year.
It’s worth checking the weather in Stonham Aspal before you head out for the day—it’s just up the road and gives you a great idea of what to expect locally.

This 11-acre site near Debenham is managed by the local community and features a woodland walk, water lilies, and an apple orchard planted in 2008. It’s a peaceful spot for a walk and a great example of local conservation efforts.
