The Best Holiday Cottages in Suffolk

By

Choosing the best holiday cottages in Suffolk isn’t a dog-walk in the park.

Each year at Woodfarm Barns & Barges we meet hundreds of guests as they arrive for their holiday or short break. Many of those guests have spent a long time on our website, so they know much of what we are known for with regards to a stay in Suffolk. We often get asked where the best places to stay are. As with our approach to every part of our business, we are very transparent, and we don’t believe in shying away from our competitors.

My name is Carl, and I have lived a big chunk of my life in Suffolk, and I have worked in the holiday industry for an even bigger chunk! I had around a decade in the industry for a large corporate before deciding to start Woodfarm and make it ‘my thing’, a decade and a half ago as I write this.

During this time, I have stayed multiple times in my own places, as well as many others around Suffolk, and indeed elsewhere. We have Dog Friendly Barns and Cottages; some people call them lodges.

Here is a list of some of the other businesses that are well known for doing what we do. We have created this list to highlight options. We’d love you to come and stay at Woodfarm in one of our Barns, Cottages or Barges of course, but here are some others too.

Badwell Ash Lodges

Scandinavian log cabins, around the edge of fishing lakes; they offer guests comfortable living. They also have a Shepherd’s Hut.

All their accommodation is aimed at peace and tranquillity in the Suffolk countryside. It is exclusively for adults and is in a woodland setting.

Open all year round, for a relaxing holiday away from it all, or you can take plenty of walks, bike rides etc, and of course, fishing in their lakes.

Best of Suffolk

Started in 2006, now part of Sykes Cottages, they are an agency offering in excess of 300 holiday cottages across Suffolk.

They cover the Suffolk coast in Southwold and Aldeburgh, as well as the Framlingham and Woodbridge areas. Many of their properties are dog-friendly.

They have a wide range of property types and sizes, so they cater for everything from romantic breaks to holidays with friends.

Suffolk Secrets

With over 800 self-catering holiday cottages, Suffolk Secrets is also an agency with a wealth of experience. Established in 1995, they have more than any of the national holiday cottage companies in the county. They only represent holiday homes that are graded 3 stars or above.

They have offices in Southwold, Aldeburgh and Woodbridge, and they are open 7 days a week. They have lots of information on their website to really make the most of your Suffolk cottage holiday.

The Grove Cottages

A hand-picked collection of holiday cottages in Suffolk & Essex. For over 20 years, their aim has been to create the perfect setting for a luxury romantic break, with authentic charm inside and idyllic rural setting outside.

They have previously been awarded the Coveted Rose Award for going ‘that Extra Mile’ to provide excellent customer service.

They have cottages in rural locations in peaceful Essex or Suffolk villages, such as Lavenham, Kersey and Long Melford. They also have cottages by the sea at Mersea Island and along the coast.

Windmill Lodges

Log cabin holidays in rural Suffolk. Each cabin faces onto a small wildlife lake and has a coal-effect fire, wooden floors, leather sofas, a fully equipped kitchen and en-suite bathroom. Each of their log cabins has been awarded 4 or 5 stars from Visit England.

They are situated near Framlingham, and within easy reach of the picturesque Suffolk Heritage Coast, with its award-winning beaches, areas of outstanding natural beauty and the pretty seaside locations of Walberswick, Thorpeness, Southwold and Aldeburgh nearby.

So there’s a bunch of companies that will give you access to well over 1,000 holiday cottages in Suffolk. Here are some other resources that you may find useful:
