Crow’s Hall Country Fayre

By

This weekend saw the fourth year for Crow’s Hall Country Fayre raising funds for the combined benefice of seven churches.

Having not been before, due to working flat out building this place, we thought we’d check it out. So glad we did! It’s a traditional country fayre with stalls and demonstrations held in the 16th Century Granary/barn, modern granary and grounds. Crow’s Hall is simply stunning as you’ll see from my photos.

There was everything there from an Elizabethan Experience including ‘A Mummers Play’, Morris Men and a dance company, as well as stalls, games, steam engine rides, archery, chainsaw demo (they were wise to not let me show them how it’s done!) and loads of equestrian demos and events.

There was a horticultural show and local nurseries were selling there so I was relieved of more money! We got some lovely new Buxus hedging to replace some of our struggling bits in our central Yin & Yang feature. We’ve also planted some large Buxus in the ‘eyes’ so it’s looking great now.

There was a licensed bar, BBQ and teas and generally a great atmosphere.

Crows Hall 2

It’s in the most amazing location, high on a hilltop above Debenham, just 4 miles from here. The approach is a long drive lined with oak trees. I thought I had a nice place here but it pales into insignificance when you arrive at this incredible historic home.

We had a good nose around the gardens and spent a fortune in our heads on more features, including a formal vegetable garden, which is in the pipeline anyway.

Other than hosting this annual event, Crow’s Hall holds jazz concerts and operas in their amazing long barn so it’s well worth going if you are staying here, or planning a trip to catch them and book a barn here to make a real weekend of it. For full details of events, check out the Crow’s Hall website.

They hold weddings at the Hall and are also part of the ‘Invitation to view’ where they open the Hall and Gardens on certain dates of the year – details can be found on their website.
