A market in Suffolk

5 of the Best Markets in Suffolk

By

It is a universally accepted truth that markets are great. They sell a wide range of specially made products, ranging from food to clothes, books and a range of specialist products. What’s more, they show off the best, homemade, locally sourced products available. So, here are five of the best markets in Suffolk to explore when you rent one of our Barns or Barges.

Bury St Edmunds Markets

Every Wednesday and Saturday, stalls descend onto Buttermarket and Cornhill in the town centre of Bury St Edmunds, with around 60 stalls on a Wednesday and 80 stalls on a Saturday. Every stall has something different to offer, ranging from incredible homemade food, to fruits, vegetables, locally sourced seasonal foods, and then a wide range of different clothes, potteries, flowers, and much more. Furthermore, for every second Sunday of the month, why not visit the Farmer’s Market, held on the Traverse, in the town centre, to grab yourself some locally produced foods, ranging from cakes to pies, savouries, fruits, vegetables, meats, as well as gluten-free and vegan products and more. These markets are certainly worth a visit should you find yourself in Bury St Edmunds.

Ipswich Market

In the heart of Suffolk’s county town, on a Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, you can visit Ipswich Market, where you’ll discover a range of different stalls to sample a variety of locally sourced, homemade foods, local seafood, fruits, vegetables and meats. In addition to this mouth-watering assortment, you’ll also find a range of clothes and jewellery stalls. You can also visit Ipswich Farmers Markets on the first Sunday of every month. Why not give Ipswich Markets a try?

Risby Barn Antique Centre

Located just half an hour from our Barns for rent, the Risby Barn Antique Centre brings together an assortment of sellers selling quality vintage pieces from years gone by. From beautifully preserved jewelry to homeware and other unusual pieces, the barns feel very much like a time capsule that will keep you occupied for hours. What’s more, there’s a cafe onsite for any refreshments you may feel partial towards during your visit.

Southwold Artisan Craft Market

In the seaside town of Southwold, on selected Saturday’s during the year, you can visit Southwold’s Artisan Craft Market at the United Reformed Church in the centre of the town. On offer here you can pick yourself up homemade gifts made by the stall-makers, such as paintings, jewellery, candles, waxes and many more arts and crafts. So, for the perfect gift, or accessory for your own home, why not visit Southwold’s Artisan Craft Market? Just make sure to check opening times before setting off!

Sudbury’s Markets

Located in South Suffolk is the market town of Sudbury, and, on every Thursday and Saturday, stalls gather on Market Hill for Market Day. In Sudbury Town Centre on market day, they offer a range of stalls, like: fruit and vegetables, sweets and treats, pastries, clothes, candles, pet supplies, street food and more, depending on the day of the market. As well as that, on the last Friday every month, a Farmer’s Market descends onto Market Hill as well, showcasing over 25 stalls of locally produced and sourced food, drinks, and craft stalls and more on offer. When visiting South Suffolk on the given days above, why not visit one of Sudbury’s Markets?

Ultimately, no matter what time of the year you visit our Barns or Barges, you’re never far from a market bursting with exciting goodies!
