Discovering Ponte a Mariano: The Nearest Village to Casa Trebbio

Hello, it’s Carl, and in this post, I want to tell you all about a charming little village called Ponte a Mariano. It’s the closest sizeable village to Casa Trebbio, with various shops, bars, and restaurants that you’ll find useful during your stay. Located about a 15-minute drive from Casa Trebbio, Ponte a Mariano offers a glimpse of authentic Italian village life, and you’ll likely pass through it most days while heading in and out.

Getting to Ponte a Mariano from Casa Trebbio

The route from Casa Trebbio to Ponte a Mariano is quite scenic. You’ll take the road that runs parallel to the Serchio River, winding your way up the hill towards Casa Trebbio. It’s a pleasant drive, and one you’ll become familiar with during your stay as it’s the main route into the area towards Lucca.

Exploring the Market Square

At the heart of Ponte a Mariano is the Market Square, where you’ll find a few essentials. There’s a pharmacy conveniently located right on the square, along with a couple of bars, coffee shops, and trattorias. The village hosts a market once or twice a week, making it a lively spot to pick up local goods. The square is surrounded by quaint shops, and there’s free parking available behind one of the main municipal buildings – a great bonus if you’re planning a longer visit.

The square itself feels almost like something out of a film set, with a distinct old-world charm that’s hard to miss.

Shops, Bars, and Restaurants

Ponte a Mariano may be small, but it offers everything you need for a short visit. There’s a fruit and veg shop that also sells flowers and plants, perfect for picking up some fresh produce or adding a touch of greenery to the terrace back at Casa Trebbio.

Another highlight is the local gelateria (ice cream parlour), which is open during the summer months. As you might expect, they get quite busy when the weather warms up. It’s not open year-round, but if you’re here during the summer, it’s a must-visit for a cooling treat.

The village also has a few small souvenir shops, as well as a couple of banks, which are handy for any banking needs during your stay.

Final Thoughts

In summary, Ponte a Mariano is a delightful little village that has everything you need for a quick stop during your stay at Casa Trebbio. From its market square to local shops and coffee spots, it’s a practical and charming place to visit, just 12 to 15 minutes from Casa Trebbio. Whether you’re picking up essentials or simply enjoying a coffee in the square, it adds a wonderful local flavour to your holiday.
