Framlingham: What’s it like? You Ask,We Answer

This blog post introduces you to a video that I shot to answer the question of “Framlingham: What’s it like?. It’s also part of our You Ask, We Answer series, where we answer tons of FAQ’s and give you lots of information to help you get the most out of Suffolk.

At Woodfarm Barns & Barges, we understand that planning the perfect getaway involves many questions and uncertainties. This approach isn’t just about promoting our Barns, Cottages and Barges; it’s about providing valuable information, solutions, and peace of mind to our prospective guests.

Anyway, this is the video, and the transcript is below it if you wish to go back over anything.

This is what I said…

Discover the Charm of Framlingham: A Gem in Suffolk

In this blog post, we take a closer look at Framlingham, a delightful market town located just 20 minutes from Woodfarm HQ. If you’re staying at one of our cosy Barns, Cottages, or Barges, Framlingham is a must-visit destination. With its rich history, picturesque streets, and vibrant local culture, this charming town has something for everyone.

A Special Introduction from Ed Sheeran

We’re thrilled to have Ed Sheeran himself (sort of) introduce this video on our YouTube Channel. As a Framlingham native, Ed shares his love for the town and gives us a peek into what makes it so special. Framlingham, as Ed mentions, is home to a stunning castle and is a perfect spot to explore during your stay at Woodfarm.

Exploring Framlingham: A Market Town with Character

Framlingham is a quintessential English market town, offering visitors a blend of history, culture, and local charm. The heart of the town is Market Hill, where a traditional market is often held, featuring a variety of local produce. On market days, the square is bustling with activity, and it’s a great place to pick up some unique gifts or local delicacies.

A Stroll Through History: Framlingham Castle

One of Framlingham’s most iconic landmarks is its Castle, famously featured in Ed Sheeran’s song “Castle on the Hill.” The castle, perched majestically on a hill, dates back to the 12th century and was built by Roger Bigod. Although the real work was done by countless laborers, Roger’s name lives on, even in the local cheese – Baron Bigod, a delicious soft cheese reminiscent of Brie.

The castle is part of English Heritage, and while you can explore the grounds and enjoy the breathtaking views, the surrounding area, including the mere, offers fantastic walking opportunities. The mere, a large expanse of water, is ideal for a peaceful stroll or a leisurely dog walk, providing stunning views of Framlingham College in the distance.

Framlingham’s Hidden Treasures

Aside from the castle, Framlingham boasts a variety of boutique shops, cosy coffee houses, and inviting pubs. The town’s unique character is also showcased in its connection to the popular TV series “Detectorists,” where the Village Hall played a starring role. Whether you’re looking for homeware, gifts, or just a relaxing cup of coffee, Framlingham has plenty to offer.

Why Framlingham Should Be on Your Itinerary

If you’re planning a stay at Woodfarm, Framlingham should definitely be on your list of places to visit. It’s easily accessible from nearby towns like Snape Maltings and Woodbridge, and makes for a perfect stop on your way to Aldeburgh or other Suffolk gems. The mix of history, local culture, and natural beauty makes Framlingham a destination you won’t want to miss.
