How to explore Suffolk’s waterways as part of a romantic retreat
Did the fact that we offer Barges for rent in Suffolk give away the fact we rather enjoy the waterways on offer around these parts? No? Perhaps it was the time we emphatically declared that the Suffolk Broads are far superior to their Norfolk neighbours. Whatever it was that gave us up, we’re certainly big believers that staying at either our Barges or indeed Barns for rent in Suffolk, would not be complete without nipping to the coast, especially if you’re planning on joining us for a romantic getaway. As is tradition with all of our articles, we’ve decided to make a case for this suggestion by offering a few options to explore the waterways when staying with us.
Weaving through and around all of the fine towns and villages which belong to our county, the Suffolk waterways are perfect for paddling, sailing or simply unwinding beside. The perfect partner to all of the fantastic inland destinations in Suffolk, these historic waterways have long captured the imagination of couples looking for a picturesque backdrop to their time away from home. Whether it’s visiting the towns which stretch out onto the water, swimming in the sea on a warm summer’s afternoon, or even cruising with a guided tour, to miss out on the waterways would be to miss out on an awful lot of what makes Suffolk such a great place to visit for a holiday.
For couples keen to keep water firmly in the backdrop – rather than getting out and sailing themselves – the coastal towns of Southwold and Aldebrugh would be fairly hard to beat. Each boasting a variety of great places to eat and drink – as well as take in a coastal view, of course – these towns have become firm favourites amongst repeat visitors to our Barns and Barges. Of course, should the mood take you, you won’t struggle to find ways of renting a small boat to get out and enjoy a more intimate experience of the water. Upon return, eating some locally sourced and freshly caught seafood is also sure to form the basis of a memorable date night.
Another way of enjoying the waterways of Suffolk as a couple is to pop over to Ipswich where it’s possible to rent a boat that can be used to traverse the River Orwell. Taking you along a truly historic waterway, this river provides outstanding views of wooded riverbanks, landmarks and the all important riverside pubs that provide comfortable views overlooking the surrounding backdrop. Promising to make for a suitably romantic afternoon, there is perhaps no better way of truly experiencing our native waterways than getting onboard a boat of your own.
We’ve a bunch or Romantic Restaurants worth checking out too.
Offering adventure, scenery and plenty of convenient places to stop along the way, there can be no doubt that our waterways are every bit as impressive as the destinations on land. To enjoy any or all of these as part of your holiday, be sure to take a look at the current availability of our Barns and Barges available for rent in Suffolk.
