Top 5 National Trusts to Visit

Across the whole of Suffolk there exists a range of National Trust destinations to visit. To let you in on the best of the best, we have narrowed down the selection to the top 5 that are most worth visiting in Suffolk.

  1. Ickworth Park
Ickworth Park houses around 1800 acres of land full of formal gardens and wonderful woodland to admire. With all that is in the gardens, it’s a great place to get back to nature for a day. Not only this, but the gardens are even enjoyable during the whole year, so be sure to wrap up warm and take a leisurely stroll through the cold winter gardens. This large and great hall is the centre of Ickworth, so be sure to check it out.
  1. Melford Hall
Melford Hall makes for a fantastic day out thanks to all of the history that lives inside of the house as well as the family who has owned the house for 300 years, and who still live in the South Wing! Here, you can view the great hall and the bedroom which Beatrix Potter once stayed in. You are also free to take long brisk walks along the countryside or calm strolls through the gardens while looking at all the beautiful scenery. The tearoom offers a range of food including a selective variety of light lunches and hot meals so there are options for everyone.
  1. Sutton Hoo
Take a long and winding trip down the history of Sutton Hoo and learn all about the royal burial ground. You can even explore the archaeological side of history and take a little dig into the history beneath our feet. Throughout the whole year Sutton Hoo offers a range of different activities to keep families and friends occupied in addition to the permanent Swords of Kingdoms exhibition which is all about bringing Sutton Hoo’s treasures together.
Suffolk Coastal
  1. Dunwich Heath

Dunwich Heath seems to be a must-visit location for anyone. Located on Suffolk’s shoreline, it offers beautiful beachy walks along the sea. Not only this, but Dunwich Heath is perfect for our little furry friends that also like to come on walks. What’s more, if you take a walk along the heath, it is a beautiful place to take up a new hobby of bird watching. So why not go down and enjoy the peacefulness of the waves?

  1. Flatford
Located in Dedham Vale countryside, you can explore the great wonders of Flatford. This includes watching wandering geese, or, if you are lucky, a group of swans floating down the river. A rare sight that brings excitement to anyone who is near you may see an otter travelling down the stream. Not only do they have amazing wildlife, but it also houses the views that were captured by John Constable for his famous paintings. So, venture down to Flatford and enjoy the breathtaking scenery it has.

To discover all of these National Trust sites in style, be sure to book one of our Barns and Barges for rent in Suffolk to enjoy a host of comforts alongside everything that nature has to offer.
