4 of the Best Music Festivals to Enjoy in Suffolk This Summer

Suffolk is a mixture of different hives of activity. From the rolling hills and the beautiful scenery, which you find mostly throughout the villages to the bustling, vibrant towns which are dotted around the county. Music festivals are, of course, an amazing way to experience what the local countryside has to offer. With most of them being set in beautiful locations, and with your favourite music blasting through the speakers as you relax, enjoy and dance to your favourite tunes, and on this list, there is something for everyone to enjoy listening to.

1) Newmarket Nights

Situated on the Suffolk-Cambridgeshire border, Newmarket is perfectly placed for those visiting our Barns and Barges. Famous for its rich history in horse racing, which has put Newmarket on the map, Newmarket Nights has respected the horseracing pride this town has and the music festival placed at the Rowley Mile Racecourse, east of the town. Taking place over the months of June through to August, some big faces will appear, for example, Olly Murs (who is fairly local from over the border in Witham), the music legend from Wales, famous for his music and his appearance as a judge on The Voice, Tom Jones, and the famous singer-songwriter Rick Astley. With many more acts set to appear this year, Newmarket Nights is definitely not one to miss.

2) Ipswich Jazz Festival

If all goes well, by the 21st June, all legal limits should’ve been lifted on coronavirus restrictions in England, which is very good news for the Ipswich Jazz Festival and jazz fans altogether. Hosted in the beautiful St Peter’s Church located near the Waterfront, this festival has earned a reputation for being quite the unique night out. With acts from various jazz artists, for example, Tina May who is well known for her ways of interpreting jazz music, as well as Enrico Tomasso, who has won the same award 6 times – the British Jazz Awards, and many more acts. So, if jazz is your thing, head over to Ipswich this June and enjoy the sweet tunes from the saxophones as they play soothing melodies.

3) Maverick Festival

Drawing huge crowds from around the whole country, the Maverick Festival lays claim to be the first festival in the UK to feature music from the Americas. Situated in a beautiful town close to Woodbridge, this event is scheduled to take place in Easton Farm Park. Hosted in the first week of September, from the 3rd to the 5th of September, where the warm summer sun still shines down. Featuring mainly American country and rock music, there is a diverse collection of line-ups, with a whole 3 days of fun.

4) Latitude

Last but not least is one of the most important festivals in the calendar every year for music, and it sure will be up there this year! Situated in Henham Park, not too far south of Lowestoft and only a short drive away from Southwold. Taking place in the middle of summer, from the 22nd to the 25th July, the line up at the moment includes artists such as Bastille as well as Snow Patrol. With more acts to be confirmed, Latitude will be one to be put onto the calendar for this year.

PS – whilst we love music, we don’t want to spoil the tranquility of Woodfarm with music in our Hot Tubs. Just sayin’.
