Pin Mill is a popular choice with our Suffolk holiday cottage guests

Pin Mill – perfect Suffolk holiday afternoon

I try to get out as much as I can and visit all the amazing places in Suffolk so that we can spread the word for our holiday cottage guests. It’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it! Riverside destinations are pretty much up there as my favourite Suffolk holiday places to choose. Pin Mill on the River Orwell is simply stunning and such a popular choice with our holiday cottage guests.

I like to get down to Pin Mill and the Butt & Oyster pub and restaurant as often as I can. A great stop off on the way is the Suffolk Food Hall just under the Orwell bridge and only five minutes or so from Pin Mill.

All of this is within half an hour of our holiday cottages so a nice easy morning or afternoon out for our guests.

The Suffolk Food Hall

The Suffolk Food Hall is an absolute triumph in my humble opinion.  It has a fabulous food hall with lots of delicious local artisan foods, as well as lots of fares from further afield too. It also has a coffee shop and a more formal restaurant with stunning views over the iconic Orwell Bridge.

It also has a number of independent catering businesses operating within small units under the restaurant. There’s a fabulous garden centre and gift shop, with very knowledgable staff and a massive bouncy ‘pillow’ for the kids.

Pin Mill on the river Orwell, Suffolk

A tiny little riverside hamlet a few miles along from the Suffolk Food Hall. It’s pretty much known for the Butt & Oyster pub and the river views. There’s a small boatyard here and a number of moorings, mainly occupied by old barges.

The Butt & Oyster overlooking the river Orwell, Suffolk

Part of the local Deben Inns group, all well known for fabulous food and drinks, they are always very well frequented. The Butt & Oyster is what I call a ‘proper’ old pub. Old wooden floors, battered wooden furniture, beer barrels behind the bar, serving a great selection of local ales, including the obligatory Adnams, the region’s favourite tipple. All of the food is freshly prepared and as you might imagine, features lots of seafood.

So if you fancy treating yourself to some great food treats to bring back to your holiday cottage or having a great lunch out with some amazing views then plan a trip to Pin Mill.

To conclude then, Pin Mill is a picturesque gem nestled along the River Orwell, offering the perfect backdrop for a relaxing Suffolk holiday afternoon. Whether you’re enjoying the warm hospitality at the Butt and Oyster or exploring the scenic beauty of Pin Mill Suffolk, this quaint village captures the essence of the East Coast with its charm and tranquillity.

A visit to the Pin Mill pub, specifically the renowned Butt & Oyster, is a must for its hearty meals, including indulgent desserts like sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie. With its dog-friendly atmosphere, views over the river, and a chance to see a historic Thames barge drifting by, it’s no wonder this spot is a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

For sailing enthusiasts, the Pin Mill Sailing Club offers a vibrant community and opportunities to experience the view of the river from a unique perspective. Parking is convenient with an accessible car park, ensuring your trip is hassle-free. As part of the Deben Inns group, the Butt and Oyster pub continues to deliver exceptional food and friendly service, making it a standout among Suffolk’s public houses.

With its rich history, cosy atmosphere, and breathtaking scenery, Pin Mill England and the Butt and Oyster Pub are quintessential stops for anyone visiting Pin Mill Suffolk UK. Plan your trip today to experience the natural beauty and welcoming charm of this idyllic riverside destination.
