This is what I said…

Exploring Montecatini Terme: A Hidden Gem Near Lucca

If you’re staying at Casa Trebbio, our stunning holiday home just outside Lucca, then you are ideally placed to visit some wonderful locations in Tuscany. In this post, I’ll be focusing on a charming town called Montecatini Terme, located about 45 minutes from Casa Trebbio.

Where to Start

One of my favorite starting points when visiting Montecatini Terme is Terme Tettuccio. There’s a convenient car park behind me, where I often leave the car, and from there it’s just a 10-minute walk down into the town. I’ve actually done a separate video that explores Terme Tettuccio in more detail, which you can find on our YouTube Channel.

A Unique Sculpture

As you walk into Montecatini Terme, one of the first things you’ll notice is a fascinating art installation – a sculpture that’s been here for years. It’s a beautiful water feature with small funnels that spin as water pours through them. It’s quite mesmerizing to watch and definitely worth seeing when you visit.

The Grand Promenade

Walking further into the town, you’ll come across a grand promenade, lined with stunning buildings. The architecture here is magnificent, with many large and impressive structures. Along this promenade, you’ll find plenty of restaurants and bars, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a meal or a drink while soaking in the atmosphere.

Shopping and Culture

At the heart of Montecatini Terme is a bustling shopping area. This town is also connected with the composer Giacomo Puccini, who was born in Lucca. There’s even a bench with a statue of him, which is a lovely homage to his influence in the region.

One of the highlights is a beautiful old carousel, which has been a fixture of the town for many years. It adds a nostalgic charm to the streets and is quite striking as it sits surrounded by the elegant architecture.

Town Square Vibes

The Town Square in Montecatini Terme is a vibrant area filled with shops. It’s a mix of old-world elegance and modern flair, with its clean streets and lively atmosphere. Despite the historic buildings, the town feels very cosmopolitan and fresh, offering visitors a wonderful blend of past and present.

Make It a Day Trip

If you’re visiting Tuscany, I highly recommend combining a trip to Montecatini Terme with stops at Tettuccio and Montecatini Alto, which I cover in a separate video on our YouTube Channel. It’s a great way to explore the region and experience the charm of Tuscan towns.
