Holiday Cottage in Tuscany

Trebbio - Our Tuscan Holiday Cottage

Last Updated on January 15, 2023

A Tuscany Holiday Cottage? Yes, you read that correctly… Woodfarm Barns has branched out and now has expanded the business slightly beyond Suffolk. Into Romantic Tuscany!

Ok, I’m ridiculously excited as there’s so much to tell! I have two favourite places on this little planet of ours. Suffolk and Tuscany. Having first explored Tuscany 20 years ago (and again in recent years), I went there a lot in 2017 and 2018. Having built my business in Suffolk, firstly on dry land and then on the water with our Barges, I’m now expanding it just a little further. With a Holiday Cottage in Tuscany!

The first thing to tell you is that it isn’t ready yet! (time of writing Feb 2019. If you read this is the future or are watching on Dave, then it will be!).

‘Woodfarm Tuscany’ now has a delightful little country cottage, called ‘Trebbio’. It will sleep 2-4 and has breath-taking views across the Garfagnana, which is the upper valley of the river Serchio, just 20 minutes North-West of Lucca. It’s just 45 minutes from Pisa, which is only a couple of hours from the UK. So now we have your staycation covered, as well as short breaks or holidays in Italy!

Location! Location! Location!

‘Trebbio’ forms part of a tiny hamlet near a tiny village called Piazza Di Brancoli, on a hillside overlooking the Garfagnana Valley towards Lucca. This is a hilly region, and ‘Trebbio’ is a ten minute drive up from the bottom of the valley. There are some shops (for provisions) at the bottom of the hill, as well as a cafe and bar, and then there are more dotted along both sides of the main road nearby.

A five minute drive further up the hillside there’s a restaurant and bar.

This is the view down towards our house. It’s in the middle there somewhere!

I bought this house because of the views, pure and simple. Woodfarm Barns in Suffolk is very rural, and so is our Tuscan cottage.  That’s the appeal.

With stunning views and ease of access to plenty of popular towns and cities, I can’t wait to share this cottage with you.

We will be bringing you details of all the restaurants and bars we try out  in due course but the closest gem and an absolute must is Ristorante Erasmo – Just 15 minutes from the house

The house in Tuscany

I viewed a lot of houses in the area and then ended up buying the first one I’d seen! I fell in love with the views and so will you. The house itself requires complete renovation, but then I’m used to that. The views don’t need any renovating; they’re perfect just the way they are.

For this reason I’m showing you very little of the inside as frankly it not up to Woodfarm standard (yet!).

We are going to make ‘Trebbio’ beautiful and we’ll keep you posted on progress. Our Cottage in Tuscany will be the same quality we have won awards for in Suffolk.

Our Holiday Cottage in Tuscany will undoubtedly have some quintessentially English influences, and again, will have every modern comfort you could wish for. Just in a gorgeous old country house in Italy!

This house is all about the incredible views, a cosy place to stay with everything you’d expect from us, in a location giving you access to some of the most beautiful parts of Tuscany and indeed Italy. Ignore the ugly facade of the house for now as this will all be rendered and painted in a typical Tuscan style.

This is the view from the lounge, bathroom and garden!

I’ll give you a very brief description as we haven’t yet renovated. I know how it will look but you’ll have to bear with me until it’s done! It will have a nice blend of traditional Tuscan furnishings and fittings, mixed with some touches of Woodfarm and Suffolk to give it that home from home feel and a taste of England. I’ve already started scouring antique shops in Suffolk and have already bought some lovely furniture, which will head over with me on a van in the Summer!

Tuscany views
There are stunning views to the South, including a beautiful Church in the distance. See below but please ignore the brickwork! The balcony will lead down to a dining terrace (the grassy bit here).

From the balcony, you’ll enter into the kitchen / diner, which will have everything you need, including your own pasta maker!

A hallway then leads to through the rest of the house, with the bedroom first, which has the same view as the dining room. Then the lounge has views to the West, as does the bathroom. There will be a sofa-bed in the lounge so the house can sleep 2-4.

I wouldn’t suggest you plan a trip to Chifenti as it is so small, but if you’re passing to Bagni Di Lucca, Borgo a Mozzano, Barga etc further up the Garfagnana, then just stop for five minutes and take in the bridge.

Fun fact; the keys to the house were cut in a tiny little hardware store in Chifenti. Ok, that wasn’t much fun, but it was a fact!

To go with those views we are building a garden terrace, with comfy seating, pizza and bread oven, and a great BBQ. So if you fancy the idea of sitting back and relaxing with the warm Tuscan air wrapped around you as you sip a nice glass of local wine, waiting for your handmade pizza or locally sourced BBQ items to finish cooking, then you’d better get yourself on our VIP Tuscany list (at the bottom of this page). We’ll even make sure there’s a proper pasta maker in the kitchen, along with local flour and eggs so you can really get into the spirit!

We have no idea when we can start taking bookings as we will be at the mercy of the Italian tradesmen and regulations, but rest assured we’ll keep you posted. At the time of writing in Feb 2019, I am hoping we can take our first guests this Summer / Autumn. Let’s see!

Outside you’ll step straight onto your terrace, where you can enjoy your morning coffee. In the evening you can watch the sun slide away behind the hills. It’ll be made for eating, drinking and soaking up the sun and the view.

Dog-friendly holiday cottage in Tuscany

Our Holiday Cottage in Tuscany will be Dog-Friendly and we’ll welcome up to three dogs.

It’s fairly unlikely for UK guests to be taking their dogs unless you’re driving and making it a longer trip.

We’ve just made sure that option is there for you, as well as for European guests, closer to our Tuscan home. And just as with our cottages in Suffolk, we’ll have a strict cleaning regime to ensure that we maintain the high standards we are known for.

Fully Enclosed Garden
You can rest assured that your pooches are safe and can nip out for a wee. They can enjoy our own little slice of the Tuscan countryside whilst you put your feet up and chill out. Dog Walks on your doorstep
‘Trebbio’ is in the country, nestled on a hillside overlooking the Garfagnana Valley. You have fabulous dog walks right from your front door, ensuring happy dogs every day! Jump in the car, drive down to the river and you will find countless spots to stop and walk the dogs, with some breathtaking scenery.

Go to the Tuscany section of the website…

We have started a Tuscany VIP guest list so let us know if you’d like to be added to it. This is simply a shortlist of all those specifically interested in being the first to know when we will make bookings available!
