Charge and recharge at Woodfarm HQ
We now have electric car charging capabilities at Woodfarm HQ! Stay with us and you can charge your car (for free!), while recharging yourselves in one of our Luxury Holiday Cottages.
Electric cars are much more common these days (in fact, the UK Government plans to ban sales of petrol, diesel and hybrid cars by 2035!), but places to charge them are few and far between in the countryside – so we decided to change that.
We have installed outdoor sockets so that you can charge your electric or hybrid car at no extra cost during your stay. Although these aren’t dedicated electric car charging stations and thus take slightly longer to charge, they still allow you to leave your car charging overnight so that it’s ready for driving in the morning.
It’s another thing we’ve introduced to become a little bit more eco-friendly, as well as providing convenience to our guests. Some other courtesies we offer include biodegradable poop bags to pick up after your dog while being environmentally responsible; and our Woodfarm Bins, which encourage guests to separate their rubbish so that it can be recycled to avoid landfill (you can read about more ways to reduce plastic waste on your Suffolk holiday here).
Although we continue to welcome our guests with diesel and petrol cars, we like to ensure that all our guests feel equal, welcome and well-catered to. Our outdoor sockets for electric and hybrid car charging help us achieve this!
If you’re intrigued by our new feature and you want to know more about the benefits of electric cars, here’s some handy info:
1. They’re cheaper to run
According to Car Magazine, a Tesla Model S can cost £12 to fully charge on a home electricity supply (or free if you’re staying at Woodfarm). You can drive for around 250 miles on a fully charged Model S, whereas a typical petrol/diesel car might go for 500 miles on a full tank, but even if you fully charged your Tesla twice, it would still be cheaper than a full tank of fuel.
2. They’re better for the environment
This is one reason why many people opt for an electric car, and why the Government is placing importance on phasing out alternatives. Electric cars emit less greenhouse gases and air pollutants over their life than their petrol or diesel counterparts. This is even after production and consideration of the electricity required to fuel them.
3. You can get a tax credit on certain models
If you buy an approved electric car, the Government is offering a tax credit of up to £3,000 to use against its purchase. You can also get up to £350 (including VAT) off the cost of installing a charger at home.
4. Health benefits
Reducing emissions and air pollutants isn’t just good for the environment – it’s good for our health, too. Air pollution caused by transport has been shown to cause cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Conversely, just one electric car on the roads can save an average 1.5 million grams of CO2 per year. So making the change to an electric car can protect not only your health but the health of others, too.
So there you have it, a little bit of info about why electric cars are so popular and why we’ll all be driving them in 2035, and yet another reason to stay at Woodfarm!
