“Can we walk directly from your Barges?”
This blog post introduces you to a video that I shot to go into detail to answer the question “Can we walk directly from your Barges?”. It’s part of our series of ‘You Ask, We Answer’ videos and blogs that cover loads of our FAQ’s, or Frequently Asked Questions, but with a (we hope) a really helpful deeper dive.
At Woodfarm Barns & Barges, we understand that planning the perfect getaway involves many questions and uncertainties. To help you navigate through these and to ensure you have the best experience possible, we’ve launched our ‘You Ask, We Answer’ initiative. This approach isn’t just about promoting our Barns, Cottages and Barges; it’s about providing valuable information, solutions, and peace of mind to our prospective guests.
Anyway, this is the video, and the transcript is below it if you wish to go back over anything.
This is what I said…
Welcome to Our Barges
Hello, it’s Carl, and welcome aboard our beautiful barge, Onderneming, moored at Snape Maltings. In this post, I’ll be talking about the wonderful walking opportunities available directly from our barges, whether you’re with or without a dog.
Walking Opportunities from Our Barges
We have two charming barges: Twee Gebroeders in Woodbridge at the Tide Mill and Onderneming here at Snape Maltings. If you’re wondering whether you can embark on lovely walks right from the barges, the answer is a resounding yes!
Walks from Woodbridge
At Woodbridge, you have the option to enjoy serene river walks in either direction along the River Deben. This area offers picturesque views and a variety of boats and other interesting sights along the quay.
Walks from Snape Maltings
From Snape Maltings, it’s incredibly easy to explore both sides of the river. We are moored near Snape Bridge, just behind us, providing easy access to beautiful paths. One notable walk is the Sailor’s Path, which leads all the way to Aldeburgh, passing through Iken. This route offers a tranquil river walk with stunning scenery.
Google Earth Tour
To give you a better idea of the walking routes, let’s take a tour on Google Earth.
Snape Maltings
Here at Snape Maltings, you can walk either side of the river. Starting at Snape Bridge, you can choose to walk along the riverbank or cross the bridge and explore the other side. The Sailor’s Path is particularly charming, offering about six miles of breathtaking views with marshes, bullrushes, and an abundance of wild birds.
Woodbridge
Woodbridge, where Twee Gebroeders is moored, offers equally delightful walks. From the Tide Mill Museum, you can stroll along the quay, passing by the Sailing Club and Canoe Club, and continue your walk through beautiful landscapes filled with wildlife. Alternatively, you can explore the other side of the river for a different perspective.
Additional Information
For guests staying at our barns, you’re just a short drive away from both barge locations. It’s a half-hour drive to Snape Maltings and about 25 minutes to Woodbridge, making it easy to enjoy these scenic walks from any of our accommodations.
We also provide links to detailed walking guides, such as the Sailor’s Path and the Woodbridge and Sutton Hoo walk, available on the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty website.
