Aldeburgh: tell us about it?

Aldeburgh: tell us about it? You Ask, We Answer

This blog post introduces you to a video that I shot to answer the common question of “Aldeburgh: tell us about it?. It’s also part of our You Ask, We Answer series, where we answer tons of FAQ’s and give you lots of information to help you get the most out of Suffolk.

At Woodfarm Barns & Barges, we understand that planning the perfect getaway involves many questions and uncertainties. To help you navigate through these and to ensure you have the best experience possible, we’ve launched our ‘You Ask, We Answer’ initiative. This approach isn’t just about promoting our Barns, Cottages and Barges; it’s about providing valuable information, solutions, and peace of mind to our prospective guests.

Anyway, this is the video, and the transcript is below it if you wish to go back over anything.

This is what I said…

Discover the Charming Seaside Town of Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh is one of the most beloved Seaside towns among our guests at Woodfarm, and it’s easy to see why. Nestled along the stunning Suffolk coast, this picturesque town offers a perfect mix of shopping, dining, and breathtaking coastal views.

Exploring Aldeburgh’s High Street

Aldeburgh’s High Street runs parallel to the beautiful shingle Beach, making it easy to explore both the town and the coastline. The High Street is filled with an array of shops, including clothing stores, gift shops, and homeware boutiques. There’s also no shortage of cosy coffee shops, pubs, and restaurants, offering something for everyone.

One must-visit spot is Harris & James, a local Suffolk handmade chocolate company. You can also enjoy their delicious chocolates as an optional extra during your stay with us. And if you have a sweet tooth, don’t miss their ice creams—they’re simply amazing!

Another highlight of Aldeburgh’s High Street is Adnams, known for its range of locally produced beers, wines, spirits, and even Champagne. A true Suffolk institution, Adnams is a fantastic place to pick up some local flavours.

The Best Fish and Chips in Town

No trip to Aldeburgh would be complete without experiencing the iconic Aldeburgh Fish and Chips. Known for its incredibly long queues, this fish and chip shop is a local legend. Despite the wait, it’s well worth it for some of the best fish and chips you’ll find anywhere on the coast.

Enjoying Aldeburgh’s Beautiful Beach

Aldeburgh Beach is a stunning shingle coastline that runs right alongside the High Street. While dogs are not permitted on the main Beach from May to September, there are areas to the north and south where dog walking is allowed year-round.

At the southern end of the Beach, you’ll find Fishers Gin Distillery, the closest gin distillery to the sea in the UK. This unique spot is perfect for gin enthusiasts looking to enjoy a tipple by the seaside.

A Scenic Journey from Woodfarm

Aldeburgh is just a 35 to 40-minute drive from Woodfarm HQ and even closer to our Barges, with just a 10-minute trip from Snape Maltings. For those staying in our Cottages in Woodbridge, it’s about a 30-minute drive, making it an ideal day trip from any of our locations.

The Iconic Scallop Sculpture

One of Aldeburgh’s most iconic sights is Maggi Hambling’s Scallop sculpture, located at the northern end of the Beach. This stunning tribute to composer Benjamin Britten has stood proudly since 2003 and is a must-see for visitors. It’s a beautiful and serene spot that perfectly captures the artistic spirit of Aldeburgh.

A Perfect Day Out in Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh offers everything you need for a delightful day out by the sea. With plenty of shopping, dining, and exploring to do, you’ll never be short of things to see and enjoy.
