Framlingham Castle

“aboutfram” – Framlingham’s great e-newsletter

Aboutfram is an e-newsletter bringing us info on special offers, upcoming sales, new product lines and news of events, all in the area around Framlingham. It’s excellent for us as so many of our guests like to pop down the road to ‘Fram’ either for a meal or a drink, or just a good old nose around.

It is the brainchild of Sarah Clarke and Kathy Churchill. When Kathy came over to Woodfarm to have a look around she explained to me that they both had professional backgrounds in marketing and sales and one day when their paths crossed working on copy for something else, they hit upon the idea of doing it for themselves, promoting the Framlingham area.

The aim of the game is to impart their substantial local knowledge to locals and visitors and as I specialise in bringing visitors into the area, I think it’s a fabulous service!

Framlingham is Anglo-Saxon in origin and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It has a conservation area and a fabulous 12th Century castle, a popular tourist destination. There is a Summer Arts Festival there and some great places to eat and drink. It was once voted the number one place to live in the country in Country Life and a trip there will explain why!

Sarah and Kathy have worked, lived and shopped in Framlingham for many years both and are clearly passionate about promoting their market town as THE place to visit.
I suggest you go straight to their subscription page and sign up to see what Fram has to offer. There are links on the page to all the previous issues so you can see the sort of great things they write about.

From a business perspective I can vouch first-hand for the effectiveness of ‘Aboutfram’ in reaching the local populous. I am a little sceptical as many business people are, when considering new advertising media and it took me some time to try them out. And yes I am kicking myself that we didn’t do it sooner! Our guests come from all over the UK and Europe so it wasn’t until we hosted our second Pop Up Restaurant in November 2013 that we decided to focus our local advertising with ‘Aboutfram’.

Well, what a response! Not only did Kathy actually book a table of six, we had calls and emails from all over the area, from local residents wanting to sample the fabulous 6-course menu conjured up by our Michelin Star trained Chef, Mark Peters. We very quickly sold out both the Friday and Saturday evening. Many of those guests immediately booked the next one on February 28th, March 1st and 2nd as soon as we released the dates.

So a huge thanks to Kathy and Sarah from Chef and I for helping us to sell out our Pop Up Restaurant event. You can check out the Blog Post and look at the menu here.

Professional courtesy forbids me from revealing how much wine was consumed on Kathy’s table that night but suffice it to say they all had a great time!
