Winners enjoying our Suffolk Holiday Cottages
As a small business we support a few local charities, albeit in a modest way. One of the ways we have supported is to allow a few people to enoy a short-break at our holiday cottages in the quieter part of the year as prizes in aid of Suffolk Family Carers. I’m delighted that all the guests we have had from winning our self-catering holiday cottage give-aways on BBC Suffolk in aid of Suffolk Family Carers have now taken their holidays and have all loved it!
We worked closely with Suffolk Family Carers last year on a couple of projects as our part to help raise money for their 8 days a week campaign.
The first project was giving a few short-breaks away in one of our holiday cottages. Away from the main season we sometimes have availability during the midweek so it made sense to me to be able to let Suffolk Family Carers have a few breaks to give away in auctions or raffles. This was done in conjunction with BBC Suffolk at the Suffolk Show in 2014.
The winners were all in contact with me after scooping their fab prizes and have now all had their holidays. Despite the fact that they were coming for nothing, they still got the same treatment, including our popular local breakfast basket, much appreciated by all our paying holiday cottage guests.
We have received Five Star feedback from all of them, which is important to me.
Project two came via my endeavours as an amateur singer/ songwriter, getting a bunch of other Suffolk musician friends together to each record one of our own songs at the BBC Suffolk studios in Ipswich to put together a CD, with all the sales going directly to Suffolk Family Carers.
I havejust found out that we have sold enough CDs from the project to gain our main sponsor match funding! This will take the total raised from our Suffolk Acoustic Showcase CD “The BBC Sessions” to just under £2000!
So chuffed that a handful of musicians from Suffolk could raise all that cash for Suffolk Family Carers! You can still buy the CD by checking out the charity website or I still have some copies. It’s just £8 for 18 original tracks from local musicians, recorded live at the BBC Suffolk Studios in Ipswich
