Farmstay experience at our nearby farms

A taste of farmstay living in the Heart of Suffolk

So many Woodfarm guests live in towns and cities, so the romantic notion of a farmstay is more about enjoying open countryside, fresh air, and peace and quiet, rather than getting down and dirty, mucking out pigs.

While our holiday cottages in Suffolk are not on a working farm today, it once was, and Woodfarm is steeped in the rich agricultural heritage of the region. Woodfarm HQ once thrived as a farm, and though the tractors have moved on (other than our ride on mower!), the peaceful rural charm is very much with us still. If you’re seeking a getaway that captures the spirit of a farmstay, with the added comfort of modern amenities, our Barns and Cottages offer the perfect balance. It’s what we’ve built our reputation on since 2009.

Farmstay vibes without the hard work

Experience farmstay atmosphere without the hard work

Many guests choose a farmstay for the unique rural ambiance and connection to nature. At our Suffolk Barns and Cottages, you can enjoy these benefits without the early morning animal feedings! Here’s how we bring the countryside to life for our guests:

•Rustic Surroundings: Our Barns & Cottages are surrounded by open fields, hedgerows, and Suffolk’s iconic rolling landscapes, reminiscent of what one thinks of as a traditional farmstay.

•Local Produce & Farm Shops: We encourage our guests to explore nearby farm shops and markets, where you can source fresh, locally-produced goods. Alder Carr Farm, and Laurel Farm are our two nearest faves, but we have a whole load of info on all those in the area.

•Nature Walks & Wildlife: Wander through countryside paths, spotting wildlife and embracing the slower pace of rural life that you were looking for—just as you would on a traditional farmstay. And you can do this, right from your front door at Woodfarm HQ, down the lane to the church, and beyond.

Reconnect with Suffolk’s Agricultural Heritage

Though we’re not part of a working farm any more, our property’s history is deeply tied to Suffolk’s farming past. By staying with us, you’re stepping into a story that reflects the region’s agricultural heritage.

Here’s a few ideas to help you soak up that farmstay feel even more;

•Visit Nearby Farms:

Suffolk boasts several working farms that welcome visitors, offering everything from pick-your-own experiences to educational tours. Here’s our pick of the crop (see what I did there?):

1.Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park (Wherstead) – Yes, Jimmy off the telly! Known for its rare breeds and wildlife park, this farm offers a variety of family-friendly activities, including animal encounters and a restaurant.

2.Hollow Trees Farm (Semer) – Offers a farm trail where visitors can experience life on a working farm, plus a farm shop selling local produce. I used to live round the corner from Semer, and remember this amazing place as a cold shed with a few poly-tunnels!

3.Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm (Baylham) – A livestock farm that focuses on rare breeds, providing opportunities to interact with animals, enjoy waterside walks, and have a picnic.

The joy of a farmstay without the mucking out!

4.Easton Farm Park (Easton) – A family-oriented farm with hands-on animal experiences, making it ideal for children and families, but big kids will love it just as much.

These farms provide great opportunities to explore Suffolk’s agricultural heritage and offer unique experiences for visitors.

•Farm to fork Dining:

Many local restaurants and pubs incorporate farm-fresh ingredients, giving you a literal taste of Suffolk’s farming heritage.

Perfect for Couples

Like a traditional farmstay, our Barns & Cottages provide a peaceful setting, ideal for couples looking to reconnect with nature, or seeking a romantic countryside escape. Without the daily duties of a working farm, you’re free to immerse yourself in putting your feet up!

Farmstay feel, Cottage comfort

If you’ve ever been curious about a farmstay but prefer the ease of a self-catered holiday cottage, our Suffolk retreat gives you the best of both worlds. Experience the countryside, indulge in local farm culture, and unwind in a peaceful that honours its farming past while embracing the comforts we all seek today.

And last but not least, we thought you might want to check out our ride on mower. It’s very orange!

Our ride on mower almost makes it a farmstay
