Lucca: A look inside the City Walls

Lucca: a look inside the City Walls

This blog post introduces you to a video that I shot specifically for our place in Tuscany, to highlight Lucca: a look inside the City Walls. It’s also part of our You Ask, We Answer series, where we answer tons of FAQ’s and give you lots of information to help you get the most out of your Tuscan stay with us.

At Woodfarm Barns & Barges, we understand that planning the perfect getaway involves many questions and uncertainties. To help you navigate through these and to ensure you have the best experience possible, we’ve launched our ‘You Ask, We Answer’ initiative. This approach isn’t just about promoting our Barns, Cottages and Barges; it’s about providing valuable information, solutions, and peace of mind to our prospective guests.

Anyway, this is the video, and the transcript is below it if you wish to go back over anything.

This is what I said…

Hello, It’s Carl: Exploring Inside the Walls of Lucca

In this video, we’re in Lucca, and today, we’re going to explore inside the walls. I’ve already created another video showing you around Lucca, where I went up on top of the walls, as you can actually walk or cycle all the way around them. You can see the grass-covered top in the video. However, at a couple of points, you can actually venture inside the walls, and that’s what we’ll be doing today.

Now, I’ll be honest—I don’t know the exact history behind why you can go inside the walls. However, I’m willing to wager that it has something to do with medieval skulduggery. Let’s take a little wander into the walls together.

Venturing Inside the Walls of Lucca

Here we are, inside the walls, and the first thing you’ll notice is the cool lighting. I’m not entirely sure why it’s there, but it adds an interesting touch. There’s also a section that’s closed off to visitors. I suspect it might have been a medieval subway system, but it’s hard to say for sure.

As always, the architecture and construction here are just phenomenal. Up ahead, you’ll see a rather strange shape, which is actually the entrance we came in through. However, the odd shape is an emu or perhaps an ostrich with its head in the ground. I’ll show you what I mean.

The Emu Inside the Walls

So, here we are. This is the emu or ostrich sculpture I mentioned, though it has some graffiti on it. Now, I’ll stop talking for a bit and let you hear the sounds from the original video, where you can watch my mate Steve knocking on the structure.

So, there you have it—Steve knocking on the sculpture! Thrilling, right? We thought it might be made of papier-mâché. There’s actually a second emu as well, and, unfortunately, more graffiti.

Final Thoughts

I hope you found this little exploration of Lucca’s walls interesting. If you ever visit, I definitely recommend checking it out. Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel and to visit the homepage of our website. That way, I can keep you updated on last-minute availability, cancellations, competitions, and more.

Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next video!
