Exploring Bagni di Lucca: A Hidden Gem Near Casa Trebbio
If you’re planning a stay at Casa Trebbio, just outside Lucca, one of the places you simply must visit is Bagni di Lucca. This charming town, known for its natural thermal baths, is located on the River Lima, a tributary of the Serchio, which flows near the bottom of our road. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Casa Trebbio, and I find myself heading there almost every time I’m in Tuscany. Let me take you on a little tour of this magical place.
The Riverside Charm of Bagni di Lucca
Bagni di Lucca is a long, drawn-out village that offers a slower pace of life, making it a wonderful place to relax. While the main Town Square is beautiful, I think the areas further downriver are even prettier. Picture this: quaint old houses nestled along the riverbanks, some of which have likely been in families for generations. These homes give the town its timeless, almost forgotten feel, which is part of its charm.
One of the highlights of visiting Bagni di Lucca is walking along the river. The views are breathtaking, especially from the little footbridge that crosses the river. As you stroll across, you can take in the picturesque scene of the river cascading over small drops, creating a peaceful and soothing atmosphere.
Discovering Hidden Treasures
Just opposite the footbridge is a constantly running thermal spring. If you dip your hand into the water, you’ll find it warm – straight from the hills! This thermal spring is just one of the many fascinating aspects of Bagni di Lucca that you can enjoy as you explore.
Another intriguing sight is the old, abandoned villa near the footbridge. This enormous structure, which has been derelict for as long as I can remember, adds to the mystery and history of the town. I’ve even snuck in to have a closer look! It’s a place that captivates me every time I visit. Imagine what it would be like to restore such a magnificent building to its former glory – it would certainly be a multi-million euro project.
A Town Frozen in Time
There’s something about Bagni di Lucca that makes it feel like the town that time forgot. The old buildings, the serene river, and the slow pace of life make it the perfect place to unwind. One of the last sights I always enjoy before leaving is a narrow little building at the edge of town. It’s tiny but so full of character, a perfect final glimpse of Bagni di Lucca’s unique charm.
Plan Your Visit to Bagni di Lucca
If you’re staying at Casa Trebbio, I highly recommend taking a trip to Bagni di Lucca. It’s a tranquil place with a rich history, stunning views, and the kind of quiet beauty that is so quintessentially Tuscan.
