Escape to the country: where to find the prettiest villages in Suffolk
It’s not uncommon for guests at our Barns and Barges for rent in Suffolk to ask about the best villages to visit. The only challenge we have when answering this question is which one to suggest. That’s right, we are so spoiled for choice that we find it quite the challenge to whittle down the options! To anticipate future askers of this question, we’ve compiled a list of five of our favourites, though you can expect to see an updated version of this article that has us running away with our suggestions!
Woodbridge:
It’s no accident that one of our Barges is situated in one of the prettiest villages in Suffolk. Here in Woodbridge, we’re sat on the River Deben and our market town has been rightfully described as “romantic” by more than a few travel publications. With cosy pubs, boutique stores, and only a short distance to travel, Woodbridge is an obvious and well-deserved choice for us to recommend.
Lavenham:
An immaculately preserved Mediaeval village, Lavenham is every bit a fairytale village. Complete with an iconic wonky house and a main street lined with historic homes, walking the cobbled streets of this village provides a quaint experience that you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in the UK.
Kersey:
Found a short way outside of Ipswich, the village of Kersey abounds with timber-framed houses and even has a 14th century church to complete its reputation as a quintessentially English village. Not just a beautiful destination to walk around, Kersey also boasts a tea room, real ale pub and art gallery. Altogether, a fantastic and pretty village in Suffolk that is well worth spending a day exploring.
Long Melford:
An historic wool village situated along the River Stour, Long Melford is perhaps most well-known for its impressive collection of Tudor architecture and historic homes. Once you’re done tracing history along its distinctive red brick buildings and admiring the Holy Trinity Church, be sure to visit one of the cosy pubs to round off the day with a refreshing pint.
Somerleyton:
Another pretty village positioned on the water – this time the River Waveney – Somerleyton is undoubtedly best known for the impressive hall that takes its name from the village. One of the grandest Victorian homes to be found in Suffolk, its adjacent tea room and cafe are certainly worth a look-in when visiting this village for the day.
To visit any or all of these villages when enjoying a holiday in Suffolk, be sure to take a look at the current availability of our Barns and Barges for rent. Perfectly aligned with the beauty of the surrounding villages, we’re sure that you’ll find staying with us the best choice when out and about in Suffolk.
