Trebbio in the Tuscan hills

Please read before you book Casa Trebbio

Casa Trebbio, our hidden treasure, is high on a hillside, typical of many houses in this part of Tuscany. Please make sure you read this section prior to booking to ensure that it is going to suit you.

The very first time I viewed the house I was absolutely blown away by the views. And every single time I’ve been since, it’s just the same! We have the most breathtaking vista over the Garfagnana Valley, Lucca and beyond. You can see at least six old churches from the terrace and the windows, as well as forests on the hillside, and so many different features of such a unique location. On top of all that you can see the whole of the walled city of Lucca!

These views are simply not possible without a little effort to get there. It has always been important to me that this is understood, as it won’t be for everyone. The location of the house is typical of the area: they built homes on mountains! I just want to make sure our guests know what it’s all about before they book.

Casa Trebbio in the Tuscan hills

Please be fully aware of a couple of things before you book.

1: It’s a ten-minute drive up a very winding road, with lots of hairpins. That’s how they build roads up mountains. I’ve done it tons of times, as have countless other people every day. It’s really not a big deal. But less confident drivers may find it challenging, I’m just saying. It is perfectly ok though, and to be honest, it’s a really well-looked-after and far better-maintained road than most back home!

I usually hire the smallest car with the smallest engine, and it’s fine to get up there. I have big cars here in the UK, but always just get something very small when I’m over there.

Parking near Casa Trebbio in the Tuscan hills

2: Parking is not right next to the house. Again, very common in this area, the parking is by the roadside, and then you walk up the path detailed below. We will of course give you full instructions when you book.

3: The last bit is a walk for the last few minutes up a steep stone path, pictured below. You will need to be reasonably fit and will need decent footwear. Don’t try it in stilettos! This is very common in Tuscany. I viewed a number of houses with far longer and more treacherous walks than this. It is fine, but I do need to let you know that there is this steep walk to get to the house. Trust me though, when you get to that terrace, you will just say “Wow”!

As you can see, it isn’t far at all. It’s just steep, that’s all. It takes me about 2-3 minutes to walk up from the road.

4: Up the top of that stone path there are just two houses. Casa Trebbio, and our neighbour Angelo’s house. There’s a path leading to both houses, and as they are tucked behind Casa Trebbio, you may see Angelo or his family going to or from their house. Theirs is the yellow house you can see on the main photo on this page. Their house isn’t attached to Trebbio though.

This is an aerial shot of Casa Trebbio, showing the pathway to it from the road. The pawprints show where the path pictured above is.

5: Recycling and Waste. A break here does mean we need to ask for your cooperation on waste disposal. I applaud the Italian authorities for really going the extra mile on recycling and looking after our planet. It will need your cooperation, but it won’t take you long. There are five categories of waste, and we have to ask you to be really diligent in making sure that you separate everything properly. We provide full details at the house in your welcome folder.

6: The property is currently very much ‘Phase one’. Below the terrace are cellars and an unkempt garden. The grand plan is to make use of all this space in time, but for now, Casa Trebbio is all on the top level, with a fabulous terrace from which to enjoy the views! I cannot stress enough, the house and terrace are all you need for a holiday, and that is what we are offering. Everything you see in the photos and video is yours to enjoy.

I truly hope that you appreciate that we are simply looking to make sure you know what you need to do in order to enjoy this amazing property.

I’m still very much working on the site to get all the info on here. I hope this helps, but please do feel free to ask any questions. I’ve never launched a holiday property abroad before, so I’m trying to think of everything!
