Stour Barn finer details
Outside your holiday cottage in Suffolk you have a small, fully enclosed private garden, with a fabulous ‘indoor outdoor’ room with a huge luxury Hot Tub as well as a patio with BBQ and table and chairs for Al Fresco dining.
The fully equipped kitchen is well laid out with ample work surface, a fitted cooker with ceramic hob, Belfast sink, microwave and fridge, kettle and four slice toaster
The main living area is spacious with a squishy, luxurious comfy sofa, lovely log burning fire and smart TV.
It has high vaulted ceilings throughout, with huge, exposed oak beams and just oozes rustic charm. The living area leads through to a ground floor bedroom with a black iron ‘bedknobs and broomsticks’ style double bed (please note it doesn’t fly)
There is a well organised en-suite shower room with a good-sized powerful fixed rose ‘watering can’ style shower, loo and hand basin with luxury hand soap
Because of the enclosed garden and oak floors we are happy to accept pets in all our luxury holiday barn cottages. We normally accept up to three dogs. We even leave a dog treat as well as a delicious local breakfast basket for the humans!
We also have a huge fully secure two-acre meadow for our four-legged guests to run around and play with each other, along with seating for the two-legged guests to chat as well! There’s a smaller section inside for nervous or older dogs to exercise on their own.
Outside you have a fully enclosed private garden with a patio and BBQ with table and chairs for Al Fresco dining
There is ample off-road parking.
Stour is a luxury holiday cottage in Suffolk; one of our six holiday cottage barns in the wooded meadow beside The Granary and Woodfarm House. These luxurious barns vary in price according to size, position, equipment etc so represent great value, as well as having something to suit everyone’s taste and budget!
The Barns nestle into the mature trees around the pond and water feature to create a peaceful little environment to relax in and there is also a lovely communal decked area overlooking the pond for when you feel sociable or just want to enjoy the sunset.
The Meadow is down a pretty country lane just outside the little Suffolk village of Stonham Aspal.
There are lovely walks and cycling straight from the Barns and the pretty Suffolk Coast is just 30 minutes away. Bikes are also available FREE of charge!
Each holiday cottage in Suffolk is unique in its decor and we have a choice of ground floor and mezzanine or first-floor options. They are all traditional Suffolk barns in style with black weatherboarding, oak trusses and beams and oak or slate flooring.
All our meadow barns are named after nearby Suffolk rivers. The river Stour meanders through from far inland at Sudbury, through stunning ‘Constable Country’, past Dedham, East Bergholt and Manningtree and out to the sea.

More reasons to stay at Stour barn
Named after the River Stour that snakes through the south of the county, this lodge with a hot tub is fashioned in the classic coach house style. A wheelchair-friendly location, it features a double bed and en-suite bathroom with a fully enclosed garden attached to it. And, you guessed it, this garden includes a huge luxurious hot tub. What’s more, this ‘indoor-outdoor room’ is nicely complemented with outdoor ambient lighting to make the experience of taking a soak even more luxurious.
Hot tubs and sleep – In the UK, research has found that 36% of adults have trouble sleeping and getting to sleep on a weekly basis, with nearly 50% of the UK population having trouble getting to sleep at least once a month. Curiously, additional research has revealed that hot tubs help with insomnia because of how they help reduce stress. Many cases of insomnia relate to stress, and as we discussed earlier, hot tubs can help relieve problems with stress. With this in mind, it is suggested that spending some time in the hot tub before heading to bed will improve your chances of getting a good night’s sleep.

We are old timers here now so tried to avoid the old haunts and found a lovely walk with The Maybush at Waldringfield by the River. The Shop/Tea Shop at Coddenham has expanded it’s fare and can be added to a circular walk from the Barns (past the airfield). Another lovely walk was to Stonham.

So refreshing to actually get what’s advertised and so much more! We have been made very welcome and nothing is too much trouble for Carl and his amazing team. Recommend Bury St Edmunds and Lavenham. Celebrated a birthday whilst away and Laura Jane Flowers delivered a stunning bouquet. Everywhere we have ventured, people have gone the extra mile to accommodate us and our nervous dogs.
Two more old Wooden-tops are back again for the seventh stay! Fab as always, and wonderful to see the daffodils in the bright sunshine at Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds followed by afternoon tea at the Swan in Lavenham.
