Dedham... What’s it like?

Dedham… What’s it like?

This blog post introduces you to a video that I shot to answer the common question of “Dedham… What’s it like? It’s also part of our You Ask, We Answer series, where we answer tonnes of FAQs and give you lots of information to help you get the most out of Suffolk.

At Woodfarm Barns & Barges, we understand that planning the perfect getaway involves many questions and uncertainties. To help you navigate through these and to ensure you have the best experience possible, we’ve launched our ‘You Ask, We Answer’ initiative. This approach isn’t just about promoting our Barns, Cottages and Barges; it’s about providing valuable information, solutions, and peace of mind to our prospective guests.

Anyway, this is the video, and the transcript is below it if you wish to go back over anything.

This is what I said…

Exploring the Quaint Village of Dedham

Hello, it’s Carl, and today’s video showcases the picturesque village of Dedham, nestled on the Essex-Suffolk border. The perfect starting point is the centrally located car park, from which you can easily explore the village.

The Heart of Constable Country

Dedham is synonymous with the renowned artist John Constable. It’s here, near the mill which I once considered calling home, that you can immerse yourself in the landscapes that inspired some of Constable’s greatest works. Just a stone’s throw from the car park, you’ll find the boatyard where you can hire a boat and venture up to East Bergholt. This beautiful spot, just a 25-minute walk (or a leisurely hour’s boat ride) away, is home to the famous Hay Wain scene.

A Stroll Through Village History

The village itself is a two-minute walk from the car park and offers stunning architecture and a glimpse into quintessential English village life. Admire the majestic homes and enjoy the local eateries like the tea room and Marlborough Head Pub located at the village’s heart. The area is not only rich with Constable’s history but also connects to other famous artists like Alfred Munnings, whose former residence is now a museum just up the hill.

Dedham’s Craft Centre

Just a short stroll from the village centre is the Craft Centre, boasting an array of antiques, clothing, and local artisan products. Inside, you’ll find a delightful tea room where you can enjoy afternoon tea or a hearty lunch.
