I’m really pleased to tell you that after our ‘£200 to charity’ offer last week, we managed to raise a bit more…

In case you missed it, we started the year with a kind of ‘raffle’ that allowed the winner to book a two night break at one of our Barns for just £200…that we sent straight to the chosen charity of that winner.

We were blown away to receive almost a thousand entries. 986, to be exact! Our winner is a lovely lady called Tanya, who was chuffed to bits. With such a large amount of interest, we decided it was only right to offer some additional consolation prizes that also benefited other charities.

We’re not talking world-changing amounts, but every little helps they say. In each case, the guests chose the charities that we donated to, and I’m pleased to say that we manage to donate;

£200 from the original offer to the Alzheimer’s Society, plus another £50 as the chosen charity of another guest

£50 to The Royal British Legion

£50 to a small charity called The Limes Community Garden, which is in Ashford, Kent

We managed to send off £350 in total (see screenshot from our bank account)

It might not be much, but i'm happy that my little business could do some good in a topsy turvy world right now.

Thank you so much to everybody that took part, and I hope we all have a happy and healthy year. If we can do a little bit of good here and there for someone other than ourselves, then it’ll be a better one right?

A poem from Tongue in cheek productions....

Roses are red, violets are blue,
We will be full for Valentines weekend,
But unless you get your skates on and book soon, you could miss out on a nice romantic break with your partner in one of our Barns or Barges, so it might not be you!

Ok, admittedly I need to work on making my poetry scan a little better, but this was a thinly disguised way of telling you that unless you get a shifty on, you’ll miss out. We don’t want to be alarmist, but if you miss out, two things will happen;

1 - Somebody that’s never heard of us will book, and none of us wants that. Some random from Google finding us 🤷

2 - You will be in so much trouble. Your partner, with his, or her, or their heart set on a romantic weekend away at one of our Barns or Barges, will be expecting a wonderful surprise. And YOU will NOT deliver. Yes YOU!

This will only mean a weekend of misery for you. They will be stroppy as hell, and you’ll keep saying “what’s wrong darling?”. And with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp, he, or she, or they will keep saying “nothing”. And you’ll know something is wrong, but you don’t know what. YOU are what is wrong, that’s what! YOU!

You went out and bought them some wilting carnations from the Shell garage down the road, and a dented box of out of date Milk Tray from the paper shop, and yet still he, or she, or they are not happy!

“What on earth have I done wrong?” you will keep saying to yourself. YOU have NOT booked one of our last available breaks, that’s what, you complete and utter numbnut!

It's less than a month away and we just have Deben Barn, Woodfarm House and Twee Gebroeders left. We will be full. I'm not trying to sell to you, because we will be full. I just want you to avoid a whole load of aggro that is heading towards you like a suitcase of wine towards a Downing Street work event.

So, if you don’t want a crappy weekend looking at your partner’s miserable face, then book now.

(I genuinely think I’m getting really good at this marketing stuff!)

16th April 2021. As further revelations of parties going on into the night in Downing Street, Woodfarm Barns and Barges was preparing for our first weekend of welcoming guests after being closed for another 4 months.

It was our third lockdown. We’d been closed for 227 days in total and we’d lost a lot of money. A lot. But we survived. We were fortunate enough to make it through.

This episode had a seismic effect on my business and my own mental health, but I’m a fighter and I got me and the business through it. A lot of businesses didn’t make it, and a lot are still struggling to find their feet nearly a year on.

A lot of people are struggling to find their feet nearly a year on from that last lockdown. From what we hope will be the final lockdown. A lot of people suffered in so many ways and may never fully recover.

A lot of people buried loved ones, including this lady. Yet we, like Her Majesty, followed the rules. We did the decent thing.

Today is the 14th January 2022 and who knows what the future holds. We could have justice and see those with a flagrant disregard for their own rules, and a complete lack of respect for us mere mortals, pay the price. But I doubt it. If he is eventually forced to resign, or is removed, I’ve no doubt that he will continue to bumble and bluster his way through warped justifications for his actions and the environment he created Downing Street. I can guarantee that he will never, ever, ever say “I’m sorry for my actions. I was wrong and I let you down”.

We all know he feels a sense of entitlement, as do his chums. This desire for power and greed will never end. It’s human nature. But I do wish as a collective we would stop voting for these people. I’ve no idea how individuals like this, or the orange American guy get in. But they do. Because there are sufficient numbers of ‘ordinary people’ prepared to trust them.

I can only imagine how the Queen feels this morning as she hears about yet more parties on the 16th April 2021, the night before she sat in this pew on her own at her husband's funeral. And she has to have a weekly meeting with the ringleader.

I guess all we can do is carry on doing what we do. I’ll carry on running my business and trying to make people happy. I’ll carry on posting stupid stuff on here, interspersed with statements of incredulity. And maybe one day soon, we will have justice in one way or another.

I’ll try to think of something funny for tomorrow.

One of the saddest pictures I have ever seen. No doubt many people have gone through the same with their loved ones. But for me this really hit home and my heart went out to her. ❤️😘

Beautifully put.

Well said Carl

They have behaved appallingly supported by those that should be taking them to task. I still wonder why the world was ‘safe’ enough for them but not for everyone else. We will all carry on as best as possible but I do hope peoples memories are long at just the right moments in time.

Alas politicians prove time & time again that they see themselves as privileged & that they believe it’s one rule for us and another for them 😡. I doubt this culture will ever change ☹️ Their apologies are empty words - they’re only sorry they got found out but would do exactly the same again. I’m going to vote Monster Raving Loony Party - at least then the name will match their actions!

A picture I’ll never forget so sad 😢

I’d love to be a fly on the wall when Boris has his weekly meeting with the Queen, especially after the week she has had. Can you imagine? 😳 Ah, no, he will probably get out of it due to having Covid in the family. Time to go BoJo 👋

I have no words to be honest 🤐😢

You tell me why everybody is demanding the resignation of a Prime Minister who talked with his staff for 25 minutes in May 2020. No 10 is an office, conference center, training complex, restaurant, bar, shop, gym, nursery and also a home. No wonder the lines of business/pleasure are are blurred. If we sacked everyone who drank at work the unions would have no members. Even the press are saying the latest reported leaving parties were held in the absence of the PM. They were wrong to hold them, but don't hold BJ responsible for something that didn't involve him.

Well said, the parties are wrong but the even greater issue that we should be angry about is the number of people who died that were avoidable. Had this government heeded the advice in 2016 to prepare for a pandemic and had the virus been treated with respect as soon as we knew it was in China. Like many other countries we could have had a low death rate. But this Govt (not Boris alone) faffed around, gave contracts to mates, got richer, and let the bodies pile up.

Lock them all in the Tower your majesty 😡.

I agree with everything you have said but I do think it is more the fact that these people do not just sit back and think of what they are actually doing. They live in their own little bubble and do not consider the consequences of their actions. And it is not just West Minster. Here in sleepy Boston one group of Councillors breached covid rules during a Council meeting, the police actually made excuses for them. Then the week of Prince Philips funeral all canvassing was suspended in the local elections, all candidates respected this apart from one. And finally just before Christmas we were invited to New Year’s Day get together by a local political group. The invitation arrived just as we were being advised to consider our social interaction. I am afraid some people can not be educated

The Queen has always acted with such integrity throughout her life and this was a heartbreaking memory I'm sure she has. I felt for her then and others who suffered similar situation albeit not on such a public stage. The government & their employees need to take a leaf out of her majesty's book!

You say it so well. This picture is raw grief at its greatest. Brings tears to my eyes, even now. Keep up with the serious and non serious posts. X

I don't usually write letters to my MP but today I have a visceral anger at the revelations of yet more partying in Downing Street. I want my MP, in a very marginal seat, to know what I and my friends and neighbours feel about the absence of sound, moral leadership of this country. I have asked for her views on integrity and trust in leadership. I don't want to sit idly by and not let my voice be heard. Like you Carl I shall carry on in my own small way trying to live a kind, caring life.

I hope she gives him what for next week. Off with his head!

Sadly an ex PM has a massive pension and he'll make a fortune on the after dinner mumblybumbly speaking circuit 😡

Thank you Carl. Needed saying....x

Not stupid at all Carl. Heartfelt and unfortunately true.

Very well written 😁

Our Queen led by example, it broke my heart to see her sitting there alone. A friend had a visit from the police as she had been reported for breaking the rule of six, she has six children and she made 7, yet there were parties going on in Downing Street the police there must have known what was happening, Well said you.

All the persons at these parties should lose thier positions, jobs whatever it is all a shambolic disgrace. Flagrant disregard for Her Majesty The Queen and country

And once more I’m working way into the night again!

I know I’m a martyr, but please don’t feel sorry for me. I don’t know the difference between a work event and drinks

Fortunately I’ve had the foresight to stay hydrated, thanks to this little number. I know it isn’t a Suffolk beer but it was a gift from some wonderful guests. Think this was Ben & Sue, so thank you. If I’ve got that wrong then I apologise as I’ve had a couple of sips and I don’t drink much as you know!

Anyway, my research wasn’t conclusive last night so I’m testing this hot tub again.

It seems to be working fine but I’ll stay an hour to be sure.

Relax and enjoy 🍺

All these extra hours working, you’ll need a holiday to recover 😉🤣x

It's a tough life!! xx

I know you don’t drink much but didn’t expect you to fill your hot tub with beer🤪🤪🤪

As a newbie to Sussex (well - 7 months now) I'm happy that a tipple from our county is helping you to get through those tedious work chores....

Such a hard life 😘

I thought it was a sarsons vinegar bottle til I cleaned my glasses 🙂

Glad to see a Sussex brew keeping you company while you toil 😆

No glass in the hot tubs!! Rules are rules...unless your name is Boris 😂😂

Enjoy! 🍺 Don’t get too wrinkly! 😉

Sussex Gold is an excellent choice of ale 🍺

Alright for some lol

My partners sort of job!

Remember to have some 'you time' after all this hard work!! X

I hope you are claiming overtime all this extra work you are doing 🤣

Carl…you’ve had toooo much to drink!

Have you got a table set for "snacks"?

Don’t work too hard, otherwise you won’t realise, you’ve been to a party, oops sorry works do!

I don't know how you survive 😂

You need cheese for a ‘party’ 😬

I was born in Sussex. So pleased you are really working hard on your testing. X

If you ever need to take a break from the arduous and exhausting task of checking and testing the facilities, just let me know. I know someone who would welcome taking on this task 😉😉😉

My eyes went to the middle 3 letters and thought he's shared that on the wrong group. 🤣🤣 I do apologise for my filthy mind 🤣🤣

Do you need an assistant for testing purposes please??

Yup, this Hot tub works. I had to test it for an hour, but I can confirm it works.

Well done you, what a trooper.

Such selfless devotion to your work 😉

Yeah but why were you wearing footless tights?

You always think of other’s, that’s dedication 👍🤪

Did to check the fridge keeps the champagne cold and you can reach the bottle without getting out of the hot tub

It's a hard life but someone has to do it 😅

Very gratifying to see you grafting so hard 😀😀!!

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Did you pay yourself overtime 😏

Such devotion to duty Carl! 😊

That’s some serious sock lines you’ve got going on!!

Perfect way to finish off a busy day!! xx

Life can be so tough at times...

Your dedication is inspiring. I think someone should arrange a party to reward your hard work.

You are so caring and thoughtful for your guests comfort. It is good to know that everything 🤔 has been tested. Keep up the good work but don't get too wrinkly. 🤣🤣

Good to know you quality-test your equipment x

Yes Sharon Jackson , but somebody has to do it

Nope!!

Even more ironic that this is “work” when the hospitality sector was shut down 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

And if we we assume for some mad moment he genuinely believed it was work, what did he do when he realised it wasn't. Did he shut it down, send everyone home, reprimand them, hold the organiser(s) responsible...

If it was work why was Carrie there? Best of my knowledge she doesn’t work for Boris anymore.

Or "Thank God for Prince Andrew"

Bye bye Boris 👋

Don’t think so

That’s how many weeks it’s been since May 20th 2020. 86 weeks today.

The day that yet another party took place in Downing Street, as the rest of us were sitting at home, or going to and from work.

I was waking up every day wondering whether or not my business would survive. Every day. If you watch the attached video that I shot on May 20th 2020, I was literally going stir crazy that day. It’s a video I shot to send to three mates in a WhatsApp group. We were sending each other dull, boring videos of A-roads, when we managed to get out. Mostly with very few cars on them, as everyone was at home. It was kind of our way of poking fun at the situation, yet it wasn’t funny. None of it. Yet somehow, a bunch of people in London were having fun. And as he avoids the simple yes or no questions even now, that pathetic excuse for a human still finds it amusing.

I’ve probably already got trolls champing at the bit to say it’s “history”, or to “let it go”. But no. I won’t let it go. Because on the day that they thought they deserved to “make the most of the nice weather”, because they’d been “working hard”, I was at home doing nothing. Apart from going out of my tiny mind, alone, wondering if everything I’d worked for would collapse. But that’s not what makes me angry. What upsets me is story after story on the radio, of ordinary, decent human beings with a tale to tell. A tragic tale of loss and heartbreak, whilst ‘they’ were partying. And they were. Make no mistake about it. This is all now fact. And if you’re a troll, about to lambast me because the majority of us ordinary decent human beings should “let it go”, then go for it. I will simply delete your opinion. Because this is my page, not yours, and you are wrong. And to date, you have all been people I’ve never heard of, and never met. Nor do I wish to.

I’ve heard so many heartbreaking stories, as I’m sure you have, of people losing friends and relatives, with restrictions on funerals and palliative care. Yet these gatherings were going on. Illegal gatherings. And all we see and hear is an unfit leader trying to avoid questions. Absent in the commons again yesterday as there were questions to answer.

Feel free to watch the video. It’s boring. So boring. But it was my life. My reality that day, and every other day. I talk about losing the plot as I do 34 laps of the dog meadow. I go into tedious detail of my lap-counting system using a rock and a bench. But that was how I was utilising my brain, because my business was shut and losing money.

(FYI, the captions are auto-generated by Facebook, so some of it may not make sense)

I talk about my own boat being sold. I say that it was a “cash injection, but it’ll get swallowed up”, which it did.

I talk about doing my delivery rounds for Earsham Street Deli. Those two days a week were pretty much the only time I got out and saw a glimpse of the world, such as it was. It was my only grip on sanity to be honest. The only time I got to see actual people.

Although we had none of our usual guests, you’ll be aware that we had various NHS personnel staying, to shield from vulnerable relatives. But I didn’t see much of them, because they were working hard. Properly working hard. A bit like all the poor hard-working staff in Downing Street. Only they were facing COVID head on every single day, then coming back to Woodfarm HQ to sleep, before doing it all again the next day. And do you know how many parties we had? Have a guess. None. Of course it was none. Because we were obeying the rules. And doing the right thing.

So when politicians like Michael Fabricant go on the radio to defend their actions and justify the illegal gatherings with such phrases as “yes, but they weren’t mixing outside”, I lose hope. Hope that we could possibly be managed by a group of people looking after our best interests, not their own.

Maybe, just maybe, their stack of cards will fall at some point. But I’m certain they will all be able to spin and justify like the world-class spinners and justifiers that they are. Somehow though, I think they’ll just carry on getting away it. Because it is the way of things. If there was any justice, that man will appear on PMQ’s today and say “I’m sorry everybody. We can’t keep pretending, and I hereby tender my resignation”. But that ain’t gonna happen.

Apologies for that. Apologies if you’ve personally suffered through the last two years, or lost loved ones. I’ll try and come up with something funny tomorrow, I promise

There are no words to describe my feelings. It’s unbelievable that this could be happening whilst I was desperately trying to maintain some kind of contact with my Mother whilst she was held prisoner in her ‘care’ home. Through a window with someone who couldn’t understand, couldn’t hear, crying and depressed & rapidly deteriorating through no family contact. And yet - why are we all not at all surprised 😡😥

There are no words....

Pure arrogance, they are not evan sorry, did any of them loose a loved one,or a business, or suffer financially..........NO

Well said xxxx

I just wanna know if Borgo did a video?? 🤣

Once again Carl you hit the nail on the head and voiced what so many of us are thinking xx

It must have been awful having to sell your boat. My heart goes out to you xx

There are no words. It’s unforgivable. We will remember this forever. Glad the beautiful meadow provided a little comfort. Beautiful bird song.

Well said, I think you're thoughts and words cover what most of us are feeling. X

You are right to post this Carl. As a family we lost a loved one and attended a Zoom funeral for someone who walked into an ambulance on a Friday morning and who died alone a few days later. There are a lot of elderly people whose mental and physical health deteriorated during lockdowns. Can we also spare a thought for school age young people whose sweet sixteens, prom and 18th parties were denied them. How galling it must be for them to hear about parties they were denied in their one bite at childhood. A poor example of leadership has been shown to them and they wont forget it. We thought we were all in it together and that sense of collectivity gave us some strength in unprecedented times. To have that sense taken away by a smirking PM hurts beyond words. I hope the healing Suffolk seas and skies bring you peace Carl. But they don't pay bills.

And still he shows no remorse for the over 150,000 who sadly died from Covid, more than were killed in bombing raids on the UK in WW2.

Totally agree, we lost a close family member who died alone, because of the rules! We will not forget this!

Despicable bunch of hypocritical w@nk€rs!! Do as I say not as I do mentality, the irony is they don't even seem to realise that what they did was very very wrong! Why did no one stand up and say " hang on we've told people they can't do this so why is it OK for us" why did Boz, Wancock or Rishi say " no, no we can't do this we are the ones who need to set a precedence and show the country how we expect them to behave" the only garden party I had was me falling asleep in the dog tent on the lawn because I'd been up since 4am and done an 8 hour shift picking groceries for delivery and was absolutely knackered!! So now they have set a precedence and the next orders to do whatever will be ignored by a huge majority of people and rightly so!! Sorry for the naughty word😬 I've disguised it so I don't think anyone will notice, ingenious abacus by the way

It makes me rage beyond belief. Surely this appointment must now come to an abrupt end. Like you, on this date I’d have been SICK with worry I was going to lose both my business and the roof over mine, my husbands and child’s head. The anxiety and depression of that still has never left me properly. This government have been an utter joke.

George Orwell hit the nail on the head when he wrote "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others".

I cannot believe how hurtful their behaviour during Covid was. Did none of them have a conscience...Well maybe 60 did as they didn't attend. Although I didn't lose people during that time, the measures put in place had a profound effect on some of my loved ones and elderly neighbours in particular, for which they struggled to recover from. Shame on the lot of them 🤬

Surely you mean Michael Fabricate?

I always thought there was one rule for us & another for the politicians & their advisers but I am stunned at their sheer arrogance & disregard of Joe Public in this pandemic. I retired long before the pandemic but my ex colleagues in the NHS were working all hours & totally exhausted. I lost 2 friends in this period & it was heart breaking to have to watch their funerals on line whilst only wanting to give their family a hug. Why did those who said they had objected not spoken up at the time - the whole lot are corrupt & selfish. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Carl and Teresa Palmer your are simply saying what so many of us, sitting watching the PMs questions today, were thinking. His arrogance is simply beyond belief. Those that have lost loved ones, their livelihood, their sense of purpose are angry and would love justice. His apology isn't enough, it will never be enough.

I’m not defending these idiots, I’m furious by what they have done but I can honestly say that a regime change will not fix anything because there is a much bigger problem coming than politicians partying while the rest of us comply. If the governments mouthpiece (mainstream media) had been doing their job properly they would have exposed all this nonsense a long time ago and we would not have experienced any lockdowns and there would not have been anything like the loss of lives as there were plenty of therapeutic medicines available to help people in the early days but they were not used. There are plenty of credible alternative media groups that will open everyone’s eyes to what’s really going on. UK Column are definitely worth a read.

The other day we posted an offer for a 2-night January break for just £200, that we’d send directly to a charity of your choice.

We were completely blown away by the response, but WE HAVE A WINNER.....

When the high-level executives on the Woodfarm Marketing Team (me and Andrew) discussed this idea last week, we thought we'd have more than a couple of you interested, but the reaction was way beyond what we expected!

We wanted to ensure that this offer didn't come across as us being desperate for business, because we're not. It's simply that January is a slightly quieter month (obviously), so we wanted to do something good for a charity.

We really underestimated how many of you would want to join in with that idea, and nab themselves a last minute break at the same time!

Almost 1,000 of you wanted this!!!

Yup, We had 986 of you apply, as you can see from the screenshot from our entry spreadsheet (with cleverly placed 'privacy' blobs)

Our responses go into a Google spreadsheet, and we use a random number generator to pick a lucky line. That number was 693, which as you can see, was Tanya! (surname withheld for privacy)

Well done to Tanya! I spoke with her yesterday, and she's over the moon. And she's all booked in for her break! I look forward to sending £200 to her chosen charity....

Alzheimer’s Society United Against Dementia.

We had such an unbelievable response that we decided to offer up a consolation prize to the other 985 entrants! If you entered, you’ll have had an email with that offer, so hopefully we can be sending some more money to some other charities with it.

As I said, we figured more than one of you would want this, but we hadn't thought of any consolations. I genuinely thought that maybe a dozen of you would be interested. But almost 1,000? Wow!

Thank you so much once again for the unprecedented response to this. I'm looking forward to sending the £200 to Tanya's chosen charity Alzheimer’s Society United Against Dementia, and I hope that we can be sending £00's more to some other chosen charities with our consolation offer.

Mine had a penchant for antique books. 😞

100% it was our Sunday paper yesterday!

Kim Reid I thought of you! 😂

Mark, Nicola 🤣❤️

Yep…. Tried to keep everything out of reach - thankfully out of that stage now 🐶🐶💕💕😀😀!!

All my gardening books, on a bottom shelf, looked like that along their spines… 3 remotes were destroyed (ie replacement ones included) a knife handle (!) scissors handle, pens all chewed. The worst was my ‘new’ mobile (do not change often and was only a couple of months old) so badly chewed couldn’t retrieve anything off it and lost many contacts!!

Get an older rescue 😉

Every one’s a critic

Steph Portman Cornish 😁😁

That’s why I rescued an older dog 😆Hope you like my sunrise photo from our early walk this morning. Might be suburbia rather than Suffolk but great all the same xx

Marilyn Diane 🤣😘

Claire Gadsdon Allie Grant

Polly Bonkers Mahon - has Geoffrey read this yet? 😂❤

Paul Froggy Evans 😂

🤣😂🤣😂 Yep I wrote out tags for my granddaughters birthday presents popped out the room for a few mins came back to this....

Hopefully he/she’s digesting the information !! 😂

I recall our new puppy chewing up a murder mystery I was reading. I was piecing bits of pages together to try and discover the murderer's identity.

Chris Dunleavy

Yep!

Have you got a new pup?
